1300 search/mo, page 1 Google, but no visit...what's wrong??

Hi Warriors,

So, 2 months ago I was building a new website in a small non-IM niche. I chose the domain name based on keyword, which has 1300 search (global) and 1200 search (local) per month. when typing on Google the exact keyword on quote, it has only 10 competitors. And, effortlessly, I ranked very easy on page 1 Google for that new baby.

but here's the thing : my website sits on #4 page 1, but it's been 2 months and NO ONE visits it! No opt-in at all! I arrange the squeeze page on the home, and writing 8 articles in the /blog/ subfolder. I have checked my Wassup stats, and the only visitors are bots . And only 1 - 2 human visits a day. But 90% of time, none at all. I've even posted 3 videos on Youtube and a press release to leverage the traffic, but no result too.

I'm confused with this. (I'm actually going to Plan B route of guest blogging and forum). With 1200 - 1300 search/month, divide by 30 days, it should be 30 - 43 surfers a day, and I can expect at least 10 visits a day . After all, it's the squeeze page (with catchy headlines etc) ranked the #4 spot.

I don't know what happened? What am I doing wrong? any answer is highly appreciated, thank you.
#1300 #google #page #search #search or mo #seo #visitwhat #wrong

What's the title tag that you used to appear in the search engines? Maybe your call to action is too weak? Check the exact match stats for your keyword too

Have you only used Google Keyword Tool for keyword research?
Sometimes Google Keyword doesn't give correct results - This is my experience. I have been doing keyword research from high competitive to low competitive words and I have realised the figures given out are not correct always.
I have ranked some of the keywords #1 Page 1 and don't get the expected number of visitors. I think one should not blindly trust Google keyword tool.
Maybe Expert keywords researchers on this forum will answer this more professionally.

it's the squeeze page title and a little bit description that appears, stuff like "scientific proven way to ___ fast"

yeah, I'm suspicious about this too. actually I've heard once a gossip about Google Keyword tool data were retrieved from previous 8 months search data. I don't know is that mean we're using outdated figures all time when using Google keyword tool?? but heck, every SEO reference I've ever heard will recommend Google Keyword tool - so I just follow what works.

Actually I did the exact method with my previous niche website that using keyword with 1800 search a month, now it's ranked page 1 too, and getting 20+ visits a day and optins. I just thought the result will be repeatable in another new website -- but apparently not. *sigh*

Did you use the tool set to "broad" match, "phrase" match or "exact" match?

You say you are on page one if you type the phrase using quotes. Where are you if you don't use the quotes? That's the important position as no-one who is searching will put in the quotation marks. If you aren't on p1 without the quotation marks then that will be the reason why you aren't receiving any visitors.

Oops, I forgot to mention the detail. Here it is :

    In Google Keyword Tool :
    - keyword (broad) 1300 (global) -- 1200 (local) -- 14.7 million competitors in broad
    - keyword (quote) 20 (global) - 13 (local) -- 10 competitors

    My SE position :
    - Broad keyword : #4 page 1 google
    - with quote : #1 page 1 google

Do you tick "exact" phrase in adword keyword tools on left sidebar?. 1300 monthly searches for broad search is different with "exact" searches. Sometimes...it shows you 1300 on board, but can be just under 100 in "exact" searches

Sorry...I missing something:p . You need to targeted "LSI" keyword rather than focus on just one keyword. For the examples :

for the main keyword is "Lose weight fast", so you should write similar articles in this niche :
        lose weight fast and easy
lose weight fast in a month
        lose weight fast video
        lose weight fast without exercising
        lose weight fast diet
        lose belly weight fast
        lose weight fast exercise
        cabbage soup diet

From my experience, don't just keep focus on one keyword

GWT isn't the most accurate but it's the best tool we have. I ALWAYS uncheck BROAD for EXACT. How many EXACT searches does your KW get?

Some times it happens for many days.
75 % of people visits first url in the google .
Even though you are in 4th place.
You may get the visits or may not .
And you did not mentioned from how many days you are in the 4th place in google first page.
If you came to that place newly , you should have patience to get some visitors.

What country you are targeting and what's the local search volume for it?
Once I had this thing, I was ranking for a keyword a Google #1 for my country, which has very less below 50 local seach per month, and the same keyword has around 1000 local search in US.

I don't know why it was earlier ranking for US too. However, now I am ranking for just one coutry at 1st position with no traffic.

I think it's best to go by exact keywords when being a website. That might be the reason there are few visits to your website. As suggested above try lsi keywords to help focus on other keywords when writing articles to help attract more traffic.

I ranked this site from ground zero to page 1 google in 8 days. so it's been 40+ days the baby's sitting there with no traffic.

You need to targeted "LSI" keyword rather than focus on just one keyword
LOL. have tried this in the /blog/ section. but you're right, I'm too narrowed everything to 1 - 2 keywords.

it's an exact match domain website.

I'm mostly targetting US (and English speaking countries), which has 1200 search/month.

I think I've learned my lesson here to not 100% depending on Google Keyword Tool data and spread the traffic source. Duh

None of the above matters. What does Google keyword tool say for EXACT phrase match. My guess is that it will be less than 10 searches a month. That will explain your traffic. The tools aren't broken. You may not know how to use them correctly yet.

It's a mistake to choose broad instead of exact, this is because broad means people are looking for those words but not exactly in the same order and with different words in between.

For example, let's say you targeted broad searches, this will sum up all the searches with the keywords in it, let' say : Cute Puppy

it will sum up searches like : is my puppy cute, cute puppy pictures, my cute puppy, etc..

Now when you look at exact searches, it will only show searches for : Cute Puppy

It will certainly take you months and even years to rank for all the variations of a keyword. Next time make sure to look at exact match.

    Hope this helps you

I notice that the majority of searches are local,

e.g. if 12,000 the searchers were from the the UK, but the majority of searchers were from the US (where the KW tool is set by default right?) you could be ranking #4 in the US and only getting 100 impressions / month.

You can use Google trends to see where the majority of the searches are coming from.

And if it helps you could use this tool to check your rankings in any given country - Page rank Checker: top 1000 Page Ranking: Search Engine Results Pages | Google SERPs Position Checker

Basically what I'm saying is that you need to be ranking where ever that KW is local to, which should be simple enough by getting a few decent links from sites with that countries extension e.g. .co.uk for the UK.

Also if anyone is wondering these are really good KWs to target because you can get most of the global searches by only having to rank in google for one country.

You need to look at the [exact] match & Trends column in Google Keyword Tool, is the Trends column solid for the last 12 months or does it fluctuate (seasonal product/keyword, etc...)?

Yukon is definitely right. And you need to look at local, not global because the odds of you ranking well in the Google search engines for different countries, i.e., google.co.uk, google.de, google.in, etc. are pretty low.

Also, you need to be looking at your competition on the first page, that is your real competition not the number of results you see for your keyword phrase in quotes.

I would suggest you to change the title tag of your website. You should tell people "Visit it, it is worth your time..." or something very meaningful for people to click on your website

Viramara: rookie mistake, hahaha. But ignore everyone else and just listen to what Yukon and theseoguys said. The only box that you select in the Google keyword tool is the exact match, un-select broad and phrase match.

also for a term that gets 1300 searches a month, for your calculations to be correct, you would need to be number 1 NOT number 4. 1300 searches a month is really low.
