Google first page, in less than a week?

Hey guys,

I did a little keyword research and found a keyword with over 1,500 exact searches a month with low competition. I then lucked out and got an exact domain match (.org)

All I did was throw up a blank wordpress theme. I haven't had time to start any kind of work on it. Literally, there's nothing on there except titles like "test title" and "test post."

A week later, I used another computer I've never been on, googled my keyword and and #10 on the first page!

How did that happen? Isn't google all about site content? My site has no content.

Anyway, I'm too buys to build it, so as soon as I saw that I hired a programmer to do it all for me. Should be up and operational by the end of this week. I guess I just want to hear some input from you guys.

    maybe the competition is really weak... and google is still a machine, it's not perfect.. that can be one factor you can consider.

    This is perfectly normal for a new site.

    Google often throws it up higher than it belongs to see if it's what people want - and then drop it back down where it belongs.

    Unless there's no competition for the search term it's just a short temporary placement that will drop away again soo.

    Google places most new websites on medium to low competition keywords high up initially. Many call it the honeymoon period.

    You're probably best off waiting for a while before scratching your head. A site with little or no content will most likely return to the bottom where it belongs quite soon Enjoy the rankings while they last.

      yes agree with others. you need to maintain the site otherwise it will drop very quickly. I set up Dynamic QR Codes as it was high in search terms for a while, but it dropped as we only used it as a landing page.

      We have now started treating it as a mini site with fresh new content at least fortnightly so it is still on page 1.

    Hi Earl,

    I usually post articles on my blogs first. Some of the selected articles are posted on WF blog.

    Here are my findings.

    Whatever I posted on my blog got indexed within hours. I don't get top 5 but usually will get top 10 such as in position 6 to 10. Quite good niches with 10k to 70k US local searches. The article stays on the same spot for several weeks until some new articles coming from elsewhere push it's position down.

    If I posted the same articles on WF Blog, they get indexed within hours too but usually go to top 5. I guess WF gets special attention from G. They remained there for a couple of days and then disappear.

    I guess G's engine is becoming cleverer. Even if I made changes to the titles, articles with duplicate content will still disappear.

    And when you don't have content, I don't think it will stick there even with EMDs.

    i believe domain help you alot !!! Domain Keyword match your meta tile and meta description keywords will give you high weight on the keyword and help you rank top for the keyword you target.
    That why people able to paid high amount on the keyword domain that exactly match.

      That's not why. It's because people pay for type-in traffic domains.

      The domain name makes much less difference than most other things in a competitive niche, so if you have money to spend buying an exact match domain is not the best way to spend it.

      Also - Google is not stupid. They know the difference between a brand and a domain.

    1. exact domain as your keyword(s)
    2. low competition
    3. who knows what big G has in mind

    I guess it must be a very low competition keyword + edm. Plus it could be apure luck after all the google updates when most IM'ers got wiped out from page#1.

    I find that Google values the importance of exact match domain way too much. Most niches I look into, there's always at least 1 exact match domain within the top 10, and it has always the lowest PR and least backlinks.
