I am interested in improving the google ranking of my website.
Can I rank well by just increasing the backlinks to my website without doing on-page seo?

    In theory you can but what is the point of sending search engines and users to your site if you have made no effort to ensure they will like what they find when they get there?

    With the new updates it's essential to have the right on-page SEO done. You can in theory rank any page with zero content, although eventually it will be moved from the google rankings.

    it's not hard to have all your on-page SEO done for you in a simple wordpress plugin (if your using wordpress)

    This is Eric I want to let you know that without a proper on-page optimization you can not improve google ranking for your site on targeted keywords. On-page optimization is the most important in SEO. If your targeted keywords has a big competition and a high search volume then first you need to optimize your site properly. Such as title tag optimization, alt tag, heading tag etc.

      Never you can't do this without On page seo. You can just drive traffic on website by doing off page seo tricks like submitting stories in bookmarking sites, by creating blogs, share articles in article directories etc.

    You can just set the metatags only for one time using white hat technique. And then you just doing Offpage activities. your keywords got fast position as per your work speed.

    see your site is followed every policy of Google update, then you don't want to do on page. If not, you are getting ranked by use of quality backlinks, when Google issue an update on it then your ranking will go off. Again you will have to start from beginning.

    You can rank you articles well by increasing the quality of the articles, that is all you need.

    You can rank but if you want to get the most effective results, you may want to make it easy for the search engines to index your site through on page seo. But remember, off page seo is still a critical to your rankings.

    To be precise you can improve traffic and Page rank by Off page SEO but getting in the top of SERP is quite difficult without On page SEO. I don't understand what is wrong in doing On page SEO when you can do Off page SEO ( On page is much easier). All you need to do is refine your content, check for keyword density (keep it optimal 2 to 3 %), use keywords in H1 and H2 tags, repair broken links, and do internal linking of your pages.
