So, you think your SEO company that you hired is legit? I'm sure the SEO company owners will have something to say about this thread. Make sure you read the whole blog post from the YOUmoz blog.

So you just signed with an SEO company or you've been with them for awhile. You outsourced because you didn't have the time or expertise for SEO, but you know it's important given the fact that inbound leads cost 61% less than outbound leads and 80% of clicks go to organic results. You've also long heard the negative echoes about SEO. Just look at what some common searches about SEO look like on Google: (See blog post for screenshot)

The question you might be asking yourself now is this: how confident am I with my SEO company? Are they as good as they say they are? What have the results been? To help you make a decision with your current SEO company or your next SEO company, this post will go over some red flags that will tell you how good a SEO company really is. If a few of these warning signs are present with your current SEO company, chances are they aren't as good as they say they are.

Your thoughts? FYI, if you been hit by panda or the penguin while using a SEO company, it's best to drop them as they didn't do a good job for you.

Any thoughts on the blog post?

Yeah if you pay $1k/month for example you would not expect the SEO company to make use of "cheap" blog networks like BMR, ALN, HPRS or to buy a few bookmarking gigs or forum spam. Instead you would expect they take the time to email webmasters for guestposts or link exchanges. I mean for $1k/month there is a lot of room to do it as whitehat as possible.

You won't find that much at this forum though as it all has to be cheap.
So the good linksellers at this forum would try to make it as whitehat as possible and at the same time to fit in the budget, and the poor sellers, well they just don't care imo. When I look at the for sale section here I think we can easily classify 90% as poor sellers.

      Link exchanges for $1k/mo?

No offense, but link exchanges are blatantly obvious and a sign of a very bad SEO company.

If this is the kinda service you want for $1k/mo. I can start a service that does just that for $500/mo.

I know many SEO companies who do that, in fact they place a linkpage on each of their client sites (all in the same niche though), and they all link to each other and maybe not pay $1k/month but they definetly pay $500/month.

And guess what? It works awesome, all their local clients rank at #1 and Google doesn't care about it at all. Besides that, there is nothing wrong with linking out to relevant sites on a "friends" page.

Other then that, most professional SEO companies rent homepage links or build private networks for their clients, which is in fact exactly the same thing, the only difference is that they don't have to link back. Many webdirectories (relevant ones) also ask for a link back to get your link there, no one is ever penalized for that as long as you keep it relevant.

Yeah this is actually a terrible method and is the most likely to get you penalized.

LINK EXCHANGE = BAD SCARY DANGEROUS

Those sites rank for years already, don't you think Google would have caught on much earlier if that was the case? The 30 same sites all linking out to the very same 30 sites for YEARS.

            LOL

And it's not one SEO company who is specialized in a niche that does that, it are 4 different companies that I know and they all rank for a long long time and all on the top of page 1.

400 PR1 - PR6 blogposts for $50,-, that is SCARY DANGEROUS as it will only be a matter of time before your network gets deindexed and all your clients penalized. And then you are the one to say link exchanges with 100% relevant sites are dangerous.

Well, remember seomoz has their own agenda and
rely on link bait...and people take it.

They forgot the biggest one that should be posted on
              the warrior forum:

You have to come to the warrior forum to get advice on
how to fix a client's site and have no clue.

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

That one always drives me crazy. I've stumbled across a few things that stumped me that turned out that answer was so obvious that I would have completely embarrassed myself had I not sat down and searched for the answer myself.

Therefore I saved myself public embarrassment and only had to deal with self humiliation - which is far less of an issue.
