blog.xyz.com SEO effect on xyz.com?

xyz.com is your parent domain while blog.xyz.com is your subdomain and will be treated as sub domain by google regardless of the matter where these two are actually hosted.

As far as effects are concerned, if your main page has a good PR and posts are interlinked between the main page and domain pages... domain pages are gonna have good SEO affects and vice-versa. No they will not be considered as different entities.

I was thinking the same: meaning I thought if you set up your blog as xyz.com/blog vs. blog.xyz.com it would be the same. Apparently it does not:
1- Google Webmaster tools doesn't show those blog.xyz.com as part of the website even though I have submitted a site map.
2- I tried backlinking from the blog.xyz.com to xyz.com and it did not work as internal links. It worked as actual external backlinks as if it was another website.
Again in this case they are being hosted on two different webhostings.

You think disney.go.com is the same thing as espn.go.com?

Subdomains are for different entities.

They are considered stand-alone websites.

You have to SEO a subdomain. It gets no love
from the "parent."

There is no reason to do a subdomain unless you
want more work, and, it is considered a separate website.

One could argue the blog is a separate website.
That may me a case for the use. But you still
must interlink for any juice to flow.

My advice is to just not do subdomains.
Do domain.com/blog
Much easier, cleaner, etc.

My best guess is the same. One thing I could understand is even without any other link structure in place, the PR flows from blog.xyz.com to xyz.com. Meaning if the blog.xyz.com is getting a lot of link juice from external links and is increasing in PR to be 3 (for example), then the website xyz.com will be PR 3 or higher as well even without any external backlinks to the website xyz.com. What I couldn't figure is setting aside the PR is the blog without any other links back to the website will affect its rankings or not. For example if your blog is being ranked well for a keyword does it mean you will get another good rankings for your website? In another words is it any good for Deep Linking?

Hi In my opinion you use you main home page xyz.com blog.xyz.com so at that use in webmaster tools add you main home page link and also sitemap.

Maybe I am wrong but the problem is Webmasters Tools doesn't understand the affiliation between those two even though I have submitted a site map. At least that's how I understand it.

Are you sure you have webmaster tools set up correctly for the blog. The code is different to put on your blog as I remember.

xyz.com is the parent domain and blog.xyz.com is the sub domain. Parent domain always has the impact on sub domain.
