Strange WBT backlink count + Google dancing

Just wondering does a google dance always indicate your sites serps are improving?

Also its odd but webmaster tools is reporting some strange number of backlinks. For example I recently had a pr5 manual blog comment approved quite happy as it had only 1 other previously accepted comment. But WBT is reporting hundreds of links from this blog.

Is anyone else having strange wbt number of backlink reports? It doesn't have nearly the same amount when checking with majestic

You sure it wasn't just a sitewide link reported in a latest comments type widget?

ok, sometimes if you leave a comment on a blog post - that comment might end up in a "most recent comments" area that appears on every page of the site - hence giving you hundreds of backlinks from hundreds of pages on the same domain. This would depend on there being a "recent comments" widget or something similar being used on the site. It might also happen if you appeared in the Blog's "blog roll" or "links" widget as they normally repeat in the sidebar on every page of a site. These are basically called "sitewide" links and appear on most, if not all, of the site's pages. If this is the case it probably isn't anything to worry about.

I am pretty much sure the pr5 blog have recent comment box widget on the main page, where you comment is showing thats why google webmaster tools showing the bunch of backlinks from the same site.

A dance doesn't ALWAYS indicate an increase but most of the time (for me anyways) my sites will increase afterwards

thanks for your feedbacks guys,, ok most my sites in wbt are showing backlinks in the thousands so it must be from what your saying cause i sure as hell haven't done thousands, one of them shows over 7k of links(bit excessive) in wbt and there all new sites and not big sites i may add. two of them aren't in serps so are dancing right now

i hope this doesnt land me an unnatural link notice i haven't done any unnatural linking

If all you have done is manual blog comments don't worry. I am pretty sure you wouldn't get unnatural linking from doing that. I have had the same thing happen before off a blog comment and webmaster tools showed 3k backlinks. I never had any problems because of it.

Also it is natural for your site to move about on the SERPS. Mine is constantly moving about because of the competitive field my website is in.
