Should I go with WWW according to google?

When I write my website address with "www" my website loads with www. When I write it without "www" it loads without www. Now which type of link should I use to build backlinks? WWW.mydomain.com or mydomain.com?

In google I see my website is indexed with www. I think I should go with www.

Can anybody help me?? :confused:

    It doesn't matter. Just choose one and stick with it. If you use WMT than you can tell Google which version you want them to use. You can also use a canonical plugin to help with this.

    As far as building back links, there are 4 variations you should be using as anchor text:

    1) www.domain.com
    2) http://www.domain.com
    3) http://domain.com
    4) domain.com

    you should really use canonical URLs. i.e. when you type "mydomain dot com" it will redirect you to "www dot mydomain dot com".

    but like Vin said, choose one and stick with it.

    It does not matter. Google has said in the past that it does not matter.

    But make sure one of them redirects to the other.

    Choose one of them and don't worry at all because both of them are the same for Google. You also can redirect one of them for example non www to www version by adding some codes to your .htaccess file.

      The website should open like "http://www.domain.com". This is called canonical error. You need to fix this issue because it affects the rankings alot. Redirect to http://www.domain.com for better results. This types of domains are more SEO friendly.

    Yupe, if your web site index with www version then you must go with www version instead of non www, but make sure before you start marketing then do with 301 redirect to non www to www version. Wish you good luck.

      Yes, go with www version of your site because it is already index and many user try to open with www.
      Redirect your non www version of your site to www using 301 redirection.

        I really can't believe how much misinformation is being spread here and how confused everyone is about this issue.

        Let's clear this up real quick.

        http://www.domain.com and http://domain.com are recognized as two separate URLs. It is important to build back links to just one of these so you are not diluting the work you are doing.

        In addition, you should do things to let search engines and spiders know which version of the URL you are using. This is where the canonical plugins/.htaccess/301 redirects/etc comes in.

        However, you can ANCHOR your url with all four variations of your domain. This is a best practice and everyone should be doing it. As I wrote above, the 4 URL anchor variations are:

        1) www.domain.com
        2) http://www.domain.com
        3) http://domain.com
        4) domain.com

        Of course, you're not only going to use those anchors when link building. You are also going to use your exact match keyword, partial match keywords, and generic anchors.

        In Summary: Pick one version of your URL. It doesn't matter which one. Build links to the version you chose and stick with it. Done.

      Yes, absolutely. If you have built back links to the two separate URLs, you are losing out on a lot of juice. Redirect the URL you don't want to use to the URL you do want to use.

        Always redirect the one version that you don't use to the version that you do use.

        Personally, I prefer to go without the www. because it's just 4 extra characters that don't need to be there. I don't know why the whole internet doesn't just decide in mass to drop the useless www.

        I have a site with www. on it, and it pisses me off that I have to put those pointless characters on my business card.
