Site wide links after penguin update

Do they do any harm after the new penguin update ? should anyone seek them or avoid them.

    Do whatever is right for your users. If a site wide link is good, then do it. Don't let a third party like Google affect your user experience.

      I'm also wondering about links within the site. Silo structures, which have generated a lot of discussion on this forum in the past, involve a lot of linking, just in a very tight way, as if each category were a separate domain. At least that's the way I've understood it.

      Now, I'm wondering if this is too much. On the one site I have that I tried to silo structure, I had links in the sidebar divided up into categories, and also at the end of the content I had the links to the other pages in the same category.

      I recently removed the ones at the bottom...decided it was overkill. But most of the content is over 1000 words long per page, so maybe the extra links were okay???

      Because nofollow backlinks are still counting as backlinks, however dofollow ones are more effective. Dofollow backlinks can pass pagerank to external links too but nofollow ones don't.

    I will prefer to stay away from sitewide links after last Panda and Penguin updates since in Penguin most of the sites are been hit which were having high % of keyword specific links and normally we prefer to have keyword specific blogroll links itself for SEO benefits which can be at negative site after penguin update.
