My contact page outranks my homepage xD

I give up. I just don't understand Google at this point

I'm trying to rank a site locally (which should be like a piece of cake), and after 2 days my site has been indexed, with my contact page now on #5 page of Google for the main KW (which it is not even optimized for), and my homepage is nowhere to be found. It's been like that for over a week now xD

I wonder where this is all going...

P.S. I haven't even built any backlinks to the site yet, so it can't be a sandbox or anything...

    Lol... Now find out which pages link to your Contact pages the most (and which are high PR) and create Backlinks to your HomePage there. Sometimes even if you don't create backlinks, after your site gets indexed they automatically pop-up to a few pages of yours.

    It should fix the issue in no time.

    Either that or Google detected the Unique Content on your Contact Us Page before the Unique Content on your HomePage, which can require content rewriting/changing...

    Yeah, it'll most probably sort itself out - a week is not long enough usually. As someone pointed out, you get all sorts of weird things happening when Google doesn't have much data to go on in the early life of a site.

    No, it might not be a sandbox penalty. Since it's pretty new, Google might still be evaluating your site. The best thing to do is to build backlinks slowly, but gradually.

    Yeah I'd say its probably happening since the site is new. Give it a bit of time, I have seen a few odd things like this on some of my sites too. Google is still trying to figure out exactly where the pages on your site should fall in the rankings.

    Ditto. Just about all my pages now rank except my homepage. Disappeared on 24th April and hasn't come back. My disclaimer page with 1 paragraph of text is ranking page 3. Good old Google

      Let's bear in mind another update is evidently in progress - there's all kinds of weird stuff going on. As usual we have to sit it out and see what the end result will be. Though it doesn't look good for a couple of my sites where I have similar symptoms - I have been waiting for the hammer to fall on those TBH...

    Just keep building backlinks towards your targeted page. Google isn't that dumb to rank your contact page for your keyword.
