No matter what I do, linkwheel, backlinks or article/posts addition to my wordpress based sites, my ranking wont come back. I think it might be after I added some link in my blogroll and it was because I exchanged links. Is it because of this?

It was ranking on #1 for a targeted keyword when I changed my keyword because of wrong analysis. After that it hasn't gained the previous position ever.

      Age: Less than a year
On page SEO is ok. header, H1, H2, H3, keyword density 6-7%
I think Penguin migh have effected more. However, I haven't done anything that could have caused my site to be effected by penguin.

Personally i would say its over optimized at 6-7% and i would not go over 4$ as a maximum and try and average around the 3% mark

Keyword density 6-7% is definitely too high. In my opinion, to make it safe you should aim at around 1-2%.

Also, I found that in the blogs, that are placed to your signature, you have bolded, italicized, and/or underlined your keyword several times. This is not wise after the Penguin. You can do that once or twice, but that is enough.

6-7% density is too much. You must maintain only 3-4% density of the most prominient keyword a.k.a most important keyword of your website in the content area. Check the list where you did the link exchange stuff. You might have a poor/suspicious link to your website and that could be the reason too. Get them removed and you will have your ranking back.

I seem to find that no matter what I do sometimes, I have trouble ranking sites. I have never got any PR for any of my pages, as best as I can tell. I can't get SEOquake to work on my browser, so not real sure. I have manged to get some of my pages ranked in the SERP, but others, no matter what I do they never appear on the first page.

    • In ranking your sites, you not just simply doing some backlinks, you should also make sure that you use popular but unique keywords and high PR backlinks sites.

        Hi opportunist86,

Let me see if I got this right... you were ranking #1 for a keyword that had little or no competition, right?

Then you switched to targeting a more competitive keyword and you haven't yet managed to rank well for the new competitive keyword, right?

The answer should be obvious, it is going to take a whole lot more effort to rank for the right keyword, since it probably has much greater competition.

        Mystery solved.

Do you think it has to do something with link exchange? I'm thinking of removing whole blogrioll from my sidebar. Everyone who has got backlink in my blogroll will definitely remove my links from their sites in return. Whats your suggestion?

I do not understand your problem clear. What do you want top ranking or site's PR. Last month Google has updated his algorithms name is Google Penguin and Google PR. I am surly Google algorithm hits your site, for this reason your site goes down.

I, and most people, don't like link exchanges. Whoever structures their exchange better or has more PR ends up losing, and others gain. You might be gaining from it or be losing from it, but if you are gaining it is at the expense of the other sites involved.

Let me tell you this: Something is hurting your site. In all likelyhood it is not the thing you are currently looking at and trying to fix. It is probably a factor that you are unaware of and/or refuse to believe has an effect. Keyword density and header tags are things that you are better off ignoring completely now-a-days. You should probably be looking at things like link quality, anchor text variety, and badly worded content. Those are probably your culprits.

Try to use long tail keywords with low competition I'm pretty sure will be able to rank your site for it.

Hello! backlinking is one of the best ways to get your site on rankings but aside that, you must try to add more class to it. Use unique keywords and high pr sites to do the trick. I hope that helped you in a way or so. Best of Luck!

I think you've hit the nail on the head ... backlinks, link wheels, article posts! <-- these are all dead! Concentrate on under optimised well written content - if it's good and informative Google will rank it.

If you've got spammy link wheels, backlinks all pointing to the keywords you'll get hit - target your url and blog name rather than the keyword.
