Newbie question regarding SEO

Hi All,

This is my first post in this forum, but i have been reading alot of interesting posts though :-)

Im totally blank when it comes to SEO, and i really dont wanna spend alot of times learning it. I do understand the basics but im not very technical at ALL ! i cant even build a simple website, im clueless when it comes to html, so i usually just outsource my work.

Here`s my Q : Im launching a Swedish site (targeted at swedes only and in swedish language), and i need to have it optimized. Can a guy that doesnt speak swedish still ooptimize the site ? as you may know the swedish alphabet has a few different letters than the English. But i guess he can just copy/paste these swedish keywords that i provide to him (the seo guy).

If it makes a difference im selling my own ebook and videotutorials in a specific niche, targeted to people in Sweden only. There will be a minisite as the index page and links to my videoblog and a few other sites - do you have any advice ?

Is there anything i have to know ? something i MUST tell my SEO guy and ? and how much would be fair to pay him for this job ?

I know theres different aspects of SEO like back links, metatags etc (not sure exactly what they are but i do have an idea) so is it enough for me to just tell the guy to optimize my site or should i be more specific ?

I have some keywords (long and short tailed) that i planned to just give him and have him do the rest ?

I usually get my work outsourced from the Phillipines but I would also be interested if theres any fellow Warriors out there who would be able to do this for me at a WSO ;-)

Thanks alot and excuse my lack of knowledge on the matter :-)

Tommy

Buy a few ebooks about SEO first. Understand all the terms in SEO, all the basics like what google wants, link building, PR and so on. Then you can start reading on the intermediate and eventually go to the advance level. Some private coaching is good too if you got extra cash to spend

You may be surprised once you start digging into it, and find that you can do most, if not all the stuff yourself...

Thanks to all of you, i appreciate your advice.

I have already read a bit about SEO but after seeing how all of you agreed that i need to digg further into i did. I read a couple of more e-books and watched some videos on SEO and feel like i`ve learned alot more already. Although i think it would be best for me to have the "on-site seo" outsourced and then i can personnaly concentrate on articles, backlinks etc.

So my question still remains : can i get my SEO guy to do the on-site seo without any language barriers, as it is for a swedish market and in swedish language ?

RayandLisaJ : Thanks for the recommendation but i cant seem to find anything by a Paul Nichollson in regards to SEO on YouTube - perhaps you could provide me with a direct url ? thanks.

as you said you were using philippiness persons
If you get an swedish then he will definetly do what your site required and it will even bring more traffic because they build links on swedish sites etc.
If your seo can do like this types of things then go with him

If you are going to be doing the SEO work yourself and not outsource it then you really do have to get to grips with it. It isn't rocket science, and not something you can do in a short space of time. First read about onpage factors and then start looking at building your links gradually once you have chosen your keyword phrases.

Also, do not just put all your efforts into SEO. Use forum signatures and other means to promote your website.

I don't think this will be a huge problem as long as they have the assistance of a swedish speaker to research and supply the keywords being targetted and to proofread the SEO changes.

It's easy to research the keywords using Googles keywords tool - you can change the language and geographic area which your SEO guys will be able to do. It would definitely be easier for a Swedish SEO person though.

I think they will only be able to do the basic on page stuff though without being able to understand the language - building links and marketing will be tough

Thanks dotslash ! (and all you others)

This was exactly what i was looking for ! I know the basics about seo but i prefer to outsource the on site seo work and do the rest my self. So this really helps ! Thanks again, i will get to it right away.

    Hmmm
okay what you NEED is to know everything about SEO... just checkout the forum and you will end up being a guru.. no joke

    My take on your case...

You will need someone who speaks swedish... just hire a kid who wants a rapidshare account.. he'll gladly do what you tell him to

The bright side, because its totally swedish, competition for page ranks is less means it will be easier for you to hit high on rankings!

Thanks to everyone, your help is greatly appreciated. I have found the answers to my questions and will start working on it right away. I have decided to have the on-site seo work outsourced (provide the guy with the exact swedish keywords etc.) and i will do the rest myself (articles, forums etc) while i still read up on it to learn more about it as i go.

Thanks again to all of you.

Buy some seo ebooks and courses . You may learn it for free but that will be extremely time consuming.
