In general, making money with Adsense is relatively easy once you’ve figured out your game plan. My goal with this post is to represent you the X factor, the actions that make all the difference.

Let’s have a look at some factors that you need to follow and do right. In fact, you need to acknowledge and religiously apply the factors mentioned below.

Factor #1: - Not having the right mindset
Foundation for every business, is the use of the right mindset. Many people know what they should be doing, but never mention to finish anything. Like in any other business, you’ve got to have the willingness to push directly through the pain periods, without any exceptions.

Strength of character is the reason why a lot of people succeed through and through. And not having strength of character is most absolutely the reason why a lot of people fail too.

Factor #2: - Not following the Adsense program policies
Not reading, knowing, and implementing the Adsense program policies, as outlined. Not acknowledging and implementing everything outlined by the program is a reason why a lot of people see their accounts being shut down.

Basically, if you want to join the program you have no other choice but to fully follow their rules. Because if not, you’ll not be able to monetize this business.

Factor #3: - Not having a plan/business model
If you don’t have a solid plan of action about how you progress throughout the process, you will have problems with getting from A to B.

Take the time to write down your income goals with Adsense, as well as how you are going to approach the business. I mean, what you need to do in order to rank your websites for certain keywords.

If you spend 1 or 2 hours here, you might very likely save hours, days, weeks, and even months later on.

Of course, you’ll always need to do more research in case things should change (what they will), but you have a plan in place that helps you to follow through.

Factor #4: - Not selecting the right niche/keywords
If you do something wrong here, it is very likely that your efforts are not going to pay off at all. In case you should pick niches that you simply cannot dominate because of your budget, skills, and business model, you are wasting your time.

That’s why you need to learn how to do that first. Testing and trying to step into niches can cost you weeks and months of failure. If you don’t have experience yet, it’s more than smart to get coached by someone who has experience.

Factor #5: - Wrong domain selection
Well, that is going hand in hand with factor #4. The domain you choose should contain your keywords.

You can either buy a new domain or an aged domain, there is really no right or wrong way. But most of the time it is very difficult and expensive to get a domain with your exact keyword.

Factor #6: - Lack of quality content
Here it is important to find someone who can write quality, relevant and informative content for your keywords. I highly recommend you to avoid cheap article providers from countries like India, Philippines, Pakistan, etc.
Google Adsense has become a lot stricter with their content requirements, and having trash content on your website might be a trigger to getting your account shutdown.

For the homepage you should invest into an awesome piece of content. I like to put articles on my website that are at least 1000 – 1500 word long, sometimes even more than that. Because if a Google employee reviews your website, the homepage is mostly the first thing he sees and if that is not sufficient, he might not make any additional effort to review other pages.

For internal pages, I like to use articles above 500 word.
All of my content is outsourced to native English writers, not anyone with insufficient writing skills.

Factor #7 – Ignoring on page SEO
Find a writer who knows about basic on page SEO. A keyword density of about 1% is fine, but definitely not over 3%! Make sure to have your keyword in the title, H1 tag, first sentence, last sentence and a few times throughout the text, depending on the length.

Factor #8: - Wrong Ads placement and selection
The ads should be wrapped around your content, preferably on top of each page. However, make sure that you have some content above your ads. I like to write a 1 to 2 sentence introduction that I use as a post excerpt.

Here is my Ad unit format:
Ad size : 336 x 280 - Large Rectangle
Ad type: Text ads only

Ads style:
Border: #FFFFFF
Title: #0000FF
Background: FFFFFF
Text: #808080

I have found that using a wide skyscraper on the right sidebar (as a widget) has improved my CTR a lot. I know there are some people saying that additional code decreases your on page SEO score. While that might be true, with more backlinks you can rank as high as you want to.

Factor #9: - Not having a Disclaimer, Contact us or Privacy Policy page
Having a disclaimer, contact us and privacy policy page might sound trial, but it’s not. These are requirements for the Google Adsense program and you should follow it. Quite often when I do research for some niche, I come across Adsense sites that don’t have those pages, but how long will they stay alive?

Factor #10 – Not setting up your website properly
A lot of mistakes are made here as well. The main goal with an Adsense is it to make it SEO optimized and user friendly.

You can set up your articles as pages or posts, it really doesn’t matter. But make sure you feel out the meta description.

The plugins I like to use are:
All in One SEO Pack
Google Images Redirect
StatCounter - Free Real Time Visitor Stats

Also, make sure your homepage is optimized for the main keyword in the main All inOne SEO settings.

I like to use the Click Bump theme, and I intend to use different templates for my websites.

Factor #11: - Insufficient and inadequate backlinking
Yes, backlinking is the biggest part in SEO or better said the longest. Here is so much that you can do wrong that it would take me 50 pages to state most of the mistakes that can be made.

One of the most common problems are not varying anchor texts sufficiently, not backlinking consistently enough, not backlinking through working methods, not backlinking to the exact page..

To get a good idea about a solid backlinking profile, do some research on your competitors. See how many backlinks they have and what their anchor text ratio is. You can start to do this by using Market Samurai.

Only backlinking with 1 anchor text is definitely no sufficient and might very likely lead to a penalty.

Building your links to fast because of impatience and lack of discipline is a big problem.

For backlinking methods: High PR blog posts still work but nobody knows for how much longer.. In addition to that, if your website gets its links from high PR blog posts, you might be ranking fast but not consistently. If the domains from which you’re getting your links get deindexed, your website drastically drops plus gets a penalty.

You can use web 2.0s with unique content, blog comments, social bookmarks, and wikis. Make sure that you index your links slowly but consistently through a pinging tool or indexing system.

Factor #12 – Not using rank tracking and traffic tracking tools
You need to know where you’re ranking and how much traffic you’re getting.
Statcounter is free and tracks your daily traffic.

For rank tracking, I like to use Micro Site Masters.

Having and using these tools makes all the difference and you need to do that in order to make optimal decisions such as selling a website at the right time or reinvesting.

Factor #13: - Lack of self-discipline
In this category falls everything that has to do with not following your plan correctly. Impatience, stubbornness or any other negative attitudes are not going to get you far in an online business.

As said earlier, success in any business mainly relies on your foundation, your mindset.

Factor #14: - Not reinvesting
Your goal should be to monetize highly profitable Adsense sites and reinvest into other projects.

I strongly advise against relying on a single method, in this instant, Adsense. You want to build as many income sources as you can to ensure stability.
Because if Adsense shouldn’t be working for you one day because your account gets shutdown or an update hits you, you lose your entire income stream.

It’s all about being a broad thinker not someone with fear.

In order to keep your mindset up to date, I've created this free giveaway.
You can download it through the following page:

I’ve created a free WSO that should help you to get your mindset to the right level. You can download a free copy by visiting this link below:

Having your keywords in the domain is still a very important SEO factor, especially when you can get an aged domain for your keyword.

As stated, you can buy an aged domain that is related and make use of the PR and age juice!

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

Yes, there are definitely more X factors in making money than just choosing the right domain or developing a plan.

I'm sure there are a few more X factors I could add, but because of simplicity I kept it shorter.

You need to become a studier of the game and be fully committed to becoming better day by day. Inform yourself, study knowledge and implement your strategy.

How does anyone know what AdSense policies mean. Google talks/writes in such obscure ways in order for them to create their rules on the fly. No one can tell for sure if they are following the rules or not.

While some people definitely have problems with reading policies like theirs, it's still far from the truth.

If you're not able to understand, nor acknowledge their policies, you probably shouldn't become an affiliate of the program.

I never had an Adsense account banned, and I work with countless successful Adsense warriors who never had an account shut down either.

It all depends on you, and facing problems is mostly not a question of coincidence.

Having keywords in domain most times is spammy. Home page should be navigation style with excerpts and categories not a 1000 word post. Using domain to target 1 keyword is a waste and you should consider brand or social friendly name. If you have site structured properly you can rank page just as easy as domain. Target a niche market not a keyword.

Why Target acne treatment when you can Target acne treatment, makeup, hair products and weightloss products all in one site? Now if you have a domain with acne treatment in it you can no longer expand and leverage the authority of your work to push other products.

I rather focus on the niche market than take advantage of any juice there may be from end type domain. My biggest success is from sites with brand domains.

Cliff note: targeting keywords rather than a market is wrong thinking

Do not buy from Xfactor! It is just a con to take your money. He keeps promising his next course is coming and to buy early, blah, blah, but he never delivers. Then try to get a refund...HA! He is the great internet con artist!
