If by niche links you're referring to other sites that are related to your subject matter, then guest blogging would be an ideal solution.

The link in your signature should be relevant to the forum you're posting in. Think of it as your business card. Join forums related to your niche, open new threads, and provide compelling information when answering questions and leaving comments. Posting on forums with a link in your signature can help you get relevant backlinks, increase traffic, and establish credibility and trust.

Forums can work, but Im unsure as to their effectiveness in terms of strictly "link building" as such. I consider signature links a way of attracting targeted traffic.

If you plan on just registering, creating a fake account and stuffing keywords into your profile and signature, then I'd say forget it.

You'll just be wasting your time.

If you intend on networking, offering useful advice and actually "interacting" on the forum, and establishing yourself as an expert, then I'd say go for it.

Think about building TRAFFIC, not LINKS, and measure EVERYTHING you do.

Unfortunately, it's the backlinks that determine the traffic in terms of ranking on Google. Just take your link and put it where people will see it. If you have great content, let them know that your website exists; even if the bounce rate is a little high in the beginning phase.

You want to get into the gaming industry (that's my main niche).

Then start using YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, HubPages, and forums.

Don't look at it like building backlinks, look at it like building traffic. You'll go further that way

Hi, in addition to the ideas above, here are a few more ways to do it,

    - Blog commenting in related niche & forum signature (Fast method, less effective for ranking, still good for diversifying backlink profile)

    - Guest posting & creating your own web2.0 blogs (Require writing, more effective for ranking)

    - If you're a dedicated gamer, building your own "game-specific" high PR blog networks would be the best way to go for long-term (Require some investment of time and money, most effective for ranking)

Whatever method you choose to go for, having a diverse backlink profile would be best for ranking.

I started with blog commenting and forum posting then moved on to guest posting. The bounce rate is a bit high at the start but if you have a good design and theme, they will be enticed to stay. Quality content on your articles will make them stay longer.

You can visit any game blogs which rates or reviews games and comment on the posts with your link embedded. Or you may guest post with a link stuffed in anchor text directing to your site.

how much effect has forum signature ?

Forum signature has almost zero effect. If you're on the forum with link building in mind purely, don't lose your time.

Attracting traffic and building connections in your niche are far better ways to use forums. With this purpose in mind, you should focus on gaming forums rather than SEO forums.

You should also think social media engagement. It takes time, and at first you're likely to question the effectiveness of your social media efforts, but in this approach pays off in the long run.

Back to your original question about finding niche backlinks. I believe competition niche research is the best way to go. Create projects for each of your major competitors with SEO spyglass for great nich link building ideas.

It'll give you lots of traffic if you do it in niche forum and ofcourse it'll give you backlinks.
