Does changing the name of your XML sitemap effect SEO?

I have a Wordpress website with a XML sitemap on http://mydomain.com/sitemap.xml

I don't like the idea that competitors can see all the pages at once.

What if I change the sitemap to for example myprettysitemap.xml and submit that to Google Webmastertools.

Will that effect SEO?

You really don't need to worry about them seeing that. They can use the site: operator + hundreds of results per page and many other tools to get a full list. So it's really pointless to go out of your way to do it.

But changing the sitemap URL probably won't cause any harmful effects.

It doesn't matter if your XML sitemap is called sitemap.xml or 7825mkifn.xml.

Competitors can easily see all your pages typing:

    Code:
    site:www.yourwebsite.com
    in Google search.
