I started my niche site at Sprint Triathlon Training for Beginners and Intermediate Triathletes in February, targeting the main keyword 'sprint triathlon training', which was not very competitive.

I have since added many articles to the site, done tons of "smart", (Pat Flynn-style) link building, done all the on-page SEO, and the home page is now on page 1 for Bing.

But Google is hating on the site. They've indexed it, as well as many of the pages, but for all the search terms I'm targeting, the site isn't moving up at all.

I've asked a few friends and made some little changes to the site, like some small code issues, but nothing else seems to make sense.

What might I be doing wrong to not move up in Google? Cheers for checking it out.

Anyone? Seems to be a big mystery to the entire SEO world that I have contacted. Really frustrating as the site is in a low competition/high search market but I still can't get Google traffic!

Keyword density needs to be at %10 which is ridiculous but thru experimenting thats what I found. It really sucks and is tricky to do without sounding repetive in your blog.

There's a link at the bottom of your page with "Affiliate Program" as the anchor text. This could be adding a "bad neighborhood" flag to your site. Also.. it's strange that your header doesn't link to your home page. I think the odd site construction and lack of a normal header is causing your site to lose a lot of authority. People construct almost all sites with a header for a reason.

Thanks, I hadn't realized that anchor text of "Affiliate Program" would be a bad thing, but I'll change it. Will have to link the header as well. What else is "odd site contruction"? This is how we've designed all of our sites, and the rest are ranking for our targeted keywords just fine, this one is the big mystery.

Hello, do you verify your site on google? Do you submit your sitemap in google? Do you have analytics report? Your site is on the top of bing(not from my end, I can see you are at place 4) because of keyword based domain, though it's kind of spinning keyword based domain. Yahoo and Bing shows the keyword based domain on the first page basically but google algorithm is different. You have to work a little bit harder to achieve top ten ranking in google.

    Hope this will help.

Thanks, yep, I've done all of the above. What do you mean by "spinning keyword based domain"? I'm not surprised that we're not on page 1 for Google, but I'm stunned that after 3 months of all this work we're no better than page 20!

What is your targeted keyword? "sprint triathlon training" what is your domain name?
        "triathlonsprinttraining(dot)net"

"sprint triathlon training" exact keyword based domain is listed on the first page of google, bing, yahoo? Answer: yes. (sprinttriathlontraining(dot)org)

It's good that you have all the keywords on your domain. Now you just have to work hard to get on the first page of google.

In many cases that should be a good sign. It's normal for sites to see ranking on Bing and Yahoo first before Google.

Actually if I remember some of my sites that finally hit the top 5 on Google were also ranking on Bing and Yahoo first.

Just keep doing what you're doing and you should be fine

If finally you see your site started ranking on Google but stuck in a position for like 2-3 weeks, just increase the backlinks built per day and try to diversify your backlink profile and it should start moving up. (of course, don't forget to limit your targeted anchor to 50-60%)

Sorry to be wordy here but hope it helps

One thing we're finding is that our keyword density is too high. We're at 16% for our targeted keyword, 'sprint triathlon training'. We're going to bring that number down which should help. Google doesn't like too many keywords on one page!

I don't see any keywords in your meta tags. Add a plugin called Platinum SEO and fill in the title, keywords, and description sections. Make sure to have you targeted keywords somewhere in all of those sections.

    Meta keywords don't matter.

What I was referring to is how you linked to your home page when linking to your site, but your header linked to a sub page. Now that you've changed the header I don't see a way to get to that sub page.

Two way links boost your site A LOT, since the PR is passed back and forth recursively. Since your site has no header with stuff like "Home, More info, About us" ect you aren't getting an automatic link to your most important pages on every page. One of the easiest way to get pretty good PR in google is to link home to every page and every page to home.

It looks to me like you made some changes that should help.
