I am doing research to find a niche and i read a sticky where the gentleman gave a lot of great information, but i am puzzled by a couple of things and was wondering if somebody could help me out.

He said the following 3 items are important to have when finding a niche.

1) Local Exact Match Search Volume at least 1000 searches/month
2) Advertiser Competition Average or higher
3) Cost per Click at least $.50

Number 2 i am confused on, so when I am resarching in Google Keywords it should have a medium or high competition? I thought it would be oppisite?

Thanks for all your help.

    Hi

Ideally yes you want low competition keywords/competitors...... BUT really I would aim for medium to high as I know there is money to be made when i see more advertisers, Now just because Google states there are medium to high competitors this does not necessarily mean its true.

Aim for local keywords so for example lets say your keywords is pianos and google says it has a medium to high competition add something like piano denver which will lower the competition and make it more targeted.

Longtail keywords and LSI keywords (the ones you see at the bottom of your search results) really help improve your rankings so try to aim for these and use them in your posts, You will see massive improvements.

I hope this clears a little up for you.

OK, so I did it, I finally got over myself.

Ok I follow you..... You want your main keyword to have high competive ranking but the niche your going for you want low competive ranking for example.

Main Keyword: Piano (Medium to High Competive)
Niche Keyword: Piano keys (Low to Medium Competive)

Please let me know if i am correct.

For me, number one should be so. But I also often take the keyword with searcher under 1.000. The important thing is to have low competition. Each keyword is not standing alone, will be helping each other. The count is a cumulative amount of all the keywords that we choose.
I agree number two because advertisers will pay us. If we choose keywords that are not advertisers, who will pay us?
For me, to number three, I always choose the keyword with cost $ 1.00 per click. Let us not be too small income. But the cost of click can change every day, not always the same. It's only as a general rule.
      Thank for your attention.

So your saying Competition should be Medium to High?

The keyword tool was actually built for Advertisers that use the Adwords network - not us publishers who are trying to make adsense income.

"high competition" in the Google Keyword Tool means that their are many advertisers bidding on the keyword. It does NOT mean that the competition to rank for the keyword is high.

Don't let anyone else confuse you.

Like I said earlier, the reason you want Google keyword tool to say competition is "high" is because that means advertisers are bidding on that keyword. This is especially important if you plan to monetize with adsense.
