Is content king how many words should your pages comprise of?

Just wondering. Most people mention 500 words being a magic number for your pages in your site. But what if your pages are 1000 words each will they rank better in the serps? As a general rule is more content better for your ranking PER PAGE?

    I don't think it really matters. Just make the content relevant. I have pages that have very little content that rank well and I have pages that have a lot of content that don't see the light of day. (no traffic).

    A lot of people insist that 1,000 is the minimum. I kind of disagree, and have had no issues with 300-500 word articles in low competition phrases.
