Someone suggested that I get Web SEO so I wish to pose the question to those who are more learned than me:

Is this software worth getting?...Free or paid version

The site I plan to use it on is St. Lucia Wedding Photographer - Kirk Elliott, Delivers St. Lucia Wedding Photography That Will Take Your Breath Away…GUARANTEED!

Many Thanks,

Kirk

BTW What is trackbacks? I see it at the bottom of my submit box

Thanks again,

Kirk

    Do you have a link to the software? Otherwise, 'web seo' is so generic it sounds like typical search engine optimization (seo) which yes, everyone should do.

      Who knows what CEO stands for. Someone could call their product "Piece O Crap" for all I care. However if it gets the job done then it's a winner & maybe the name just might attract many curious onlookers!

      What a marketing strategy

    I strongly recommend you not use softwares.
    There really isnt anything much to seo.. all depends on content and backlinks

    all u gotta do is find related pages and get your link on it... and keep updating your website with real content...
    hire a guy to do it in any asian country... they will do it for peanuts......

    for much lesser than the software you buy

    I never heard any seo expert promoting it . But one thing I can say is there are much better keyword tools available online.

    The free version of Web CEO, along with the free training videos, is a useful way to start out in SEO. I still use it to track search rank for sites over time, and find it useful to see what keywords we're ranking well for and which need more work.

    I downloaded it a year or so back (I'm easily impressed!) There IS good, basic, straightforward stuff there but - as TheYongMarketeer says above, you can spend hours just fiddling and tweaking it.... Stick with the warriors!

    @James12C That's why I love you guys.

    I think I'll get the free version (that was always my intention) and I'll play with it for a bit to help me understand SEO. Then it becomes easy to understand whether or not someone is doing a good job. That's how I built my new website.

    SO once again Many Thanks for all of your useful insight. It has really been helpful.

    I think it is a good software. It tells you how much work you need to do to rank on the first page of google. I am thinking of getting SEO Elite.

    OK so I spent some time playing with Web CEO and while it contains useful info, it doesn't represent efficient use of my time nor my skills.

    Having said that I've just discovered that I'm now on page 1 for the term "St. Lucia Photographer" after launching St. Lucia Wedding about 1 month ago!

    So my question is: If I were to outsource my SEO to Asia what must I look for in a candidate and what might I expect to pay?

    My goal is excellent 1st page positioning for the major search terms related to St.Lucia Weddings specifically. Since this is such a niche sector I imagine that accomplishing this should be relatively simple.

    After that I can go after more general terms such as "Destination Weddings". Heck, if I find someone who is good I'm sure they can do it all in tandem...

    Am I asking for too much? (:-)

    I don't think outsourcing to a "insert foreign race here" is a good idea. Here is why:

    1. Do they understand what you want? Are you sure?
    2. Can you sue them if they steal from you?
    3. How many emails will it take to communicate project specs?
    4. What sort of time difference problems will happen? You email them, wait 12 hours, they respond while you are sleeping, you clarify the question, wait 12 hours, they respond, you further clarify, etc. Now a week has gone by and nothing is done.

    SEO Checklist

    You should know enough about SEO to know what to look for in whomever you outsource.

    Here is a SEO Checklist of things to review on your own site, and things you can specifically ask a contractor to do:

    * Research Your keywords (google keyword tool at least)
    * Use unique titles that have a 3 to 4 word keyphrase in it.
    * Links to pages in your site using key phrases as text
    * focus on a niche, be the expert on one thing
    * Target only 1 keyphrase per page
    * Use headers with key phrases
    * First paragraph should have key phrase
    * occasionally strong or em the key phrases
    * Use alt tags with key phrases embedded in them
    * use similar word values to and around your key phrase links
    * remove as much css and js to external files as possible
    * limit the use of flash, especially for navigation
    * Put content as high up on the order of code as possible
    * Put code for menus, js etc at the bottom
    * Do not link to other sites unless they are truly of value
    * Do not link to other sites from your home page
    * use a separate "link list" page for all outbound links
    * track your outbound links, and only give a link if you get paid
    * Use a XML sitemap and submit it to yahoo, msn, google
    * Update your content at least weekly, more if possible
    * Do not move pages once you create them
    * changing content is good, if the url doesn't change
    * use key phrases in category, domain name and file names
    * On all pages, break out of frames
    * Do not use frames on any page
    * do not use iframes on any page
    * make sure meta keywords actually exist in your page text
    * use a good exciting and enticing meta description
    * use a phrase in h1, h2, and h3 tags if appropriate
    * don't over use your keyphrase (1 per 2 paragraphs is fine)
    * Validate Your pages using HTML validators
    * Do not link to bad sites or bad neighborhoods
    * Do not simply swap links for a swap, get 1 way incoming links
    * keep your page structure nested to only 1 or 2 levels, not 3+
    * limit links to 100 per page
    * if you get a link, don't change it or drop it
    * do not refresh content on every page load, google spiders you twice
    * validate all outgoing and internal links
    * don't use a URL with 4 or more hyphens
    * renew domain name for more than 1 year, longer is better
    * stem your keywords throughout your text: run, ran, running
    * do not use sessions for SEO
    * do not use dynamic pages (site.com?a=b&c=d&e=f)
    * make sure you aren't blocking yourself with bad robots.txt
    * don't junk up your page with useless meta tags (author, date, etc)
    * Try not to use too many tables, light clean css code is better
    * use semrush.com to get ideas from your competition's sites
    * only link in/out form related sites (sports=golf, mp3!=golf)
    * use text as much as possible, flash and images do not help SEO
    * do not use javascript or flash navigation, if you do use xml sitemaps too
    * pretty URLs (site.com/keyword.html) help with keyword links offsite

    Duplicate content gotchas
    Pick one and consistently link to it. Redirect with 301 Redirection if you have the following:

    * a.com/
    * a.com
    * a.com/index.html
    * www.a.com
    * www.a.com/index.html
    * www.a.com/index.html?foo
    * Bad: sessions or shopping carts that provide duplicate content,
    * Bad: duplicate content through multiple categories in wordpress.
    * Bad: site.com?id=23 and site.com/page23.html only use one

    Sandbox Danger
    * Do not put tons of articles up all at once unless your site is old
    * Do not buy an existing domain expecting to keep their traffic
    * Do not surge your link getting then stop
    * Do not immediately put adsense on your site

    Those are the majority of the "on site" factors that you can control. Of course there are more - but this is better than most websites you will encounter.

    Off site factors:

    * Get links gradually from related sites, high PR is better
    * use your phrase in the link (domains, categories, files help with this)
    * do not cross link sites, instead link all of your funnels to one site

    This is a cheat sheet summary that I am going to pass out at a marketing seminar in dallas, along with my business card for SEO optimization. I tried to limit it to simple things people could look at on their own.

    Let me know if you want help implementing or checking any of these.

    By the way, this is my original article - posted originally on one of my websites, though I am guessing WF will get indexed before my puny blog does lol

        I won't really be able to go over the why on each of these, but here is the logic behind do not link to other (non money making) sites from your home page:

        Assume that each single page has 100 imaginary points. If you have 10 links going to your pages, then your home page is voting 10 points for each of your links.

        Now, if you have something more realistic like 20 links to your interior pages, and 5 links to other sites, each link is worth 4 points and you just gave away 20% of your "vote" to other sites.

        Your homepage will most likely have the highest page rank of all of your website, so for the page that matters most - don't share your "vote", keep it to yourself, or limit it to sites that make you money.

        Instead of linking to an affiliate program for example, link to a keyword on your domain:

        yoursite.com/keyword-here.html

        Then, from the keyword-here.html page use a no follow, or javascript link if you want to not pass any vote, or simply a regular link if you don't care.

        If you do this, and your affiliate/product that you link to from the keyword-here.html page changes, you simply add a new affiliate and keep all of your traffic and page rank. If you had instead linked directly to them, and then change your link - you keep nothing that you've built up.

        You asked if using redirects counts.... if they redirect one of your interior pages to an external site then it's ok. You can always change the redirect if the affiliate program isn't a good one. I wrote a script to track clicks so I can monitor all outbound clicks for this very reason.

        Hi James,

        Many Thanks again for that comprehensive list of actions.

        Can you clarify this:

        2. Can you sue them if they steal from you?

        What could they steal?

          Data, Articles, Traffic, passwords, commissions

          A customer contacted me because their webmaster installed a hijacker script that redirected all of her traffic through the webmaster's affiliate link instead. She chose not to pursue him, but personally - I want to be able to hang someone if they pull this kind of thing on me. I would put their company name, personal name, and personal info on a SEO optimized wall of shame, then get links in newsgroups, forums, better business bureaus etc if they maliciously did something like this.

          Then, I'd sue them.

          I'm not hateful, and I understand honest mistakes - but willfully destroying my business and my ability to feed my family is a declaration of war. If I outsource (which I do sometimes), I limit the scope of the damage they can do by only giving them access to what needs to be done, and no more. They don't upload files, they email them to me, etc.

              By the way, Web CEO has an affiliate program I believe. Review it, and post your review on your blog - link to their affiliate program. I mean, if you are reviewing it anyway ...... might as well lay a little cash trap for it right?
