what the heck? did google do another update?

I used to be #4 for a keyword, then penguin happened and I dropped down to the second page. I was sitting at #11 for a while, and then all of a sudden TODAY I went from #11 to #28

what happened? I haven't done any linkbuilding this month at all aside from a Matt LaClear service that I don't think did anything wrong.

can someone help me out? what happened? this site is the only way I make money. How do I fix this?

I have a high quality site with frequently updated original content that is a whole lot better than many of the sites above me.

Last Google update was Penguin 1.1 about a week ago, therefore, you should look at the changes you did make as the likely cause.

Im not sure in this post Penguin landscape, what in the world would make you think that Matt LaClear's bulk backlink packages would not possibly hurt your site. Have we learned nothing from Penguin.

Well, one of my sites got hit by penguin, recovered, went back to ranking on page one for main keyword and just 3 days ago, disappeared again. Searched the internet for answers, apparently there was a 1.1 penguin update... I didn't even do any serious backlinking, just a Squidoo lens, nothing major. I know how the OP feels. This is like a rollercoaster. I thought that the worst had passed and that Google was going to leave my little site alone, but nope.

Should I be expecting recovery in a month or so again? That's what happened last time.

Sorry it's not fun to lose rankings but it has "some" elements!

thanks for laughing at me, guess I won't be buying your service. a little compassion and advice would go a long way. I'm not an SEO guru or IM, I'm here to learn to help my business. I really don't appreciate it when people treat me like I'm stupid. I'm doing my best, I come here, I read, I buy services. some of them good - some of them not good. I take advice and implement it the best I can. Sometimes the advice is bad. sometimes its good. I'm excellent with some social media and I give advice and "give back" whenever I can on these boards. I don't appreciate it when people are mean. This site is my livelihood and my business and when something goes wrong, thats food out of my mouth. this isn't funny.

It's not funny indeed that you lost your rankings but it is funny that you used Matt's service. I ain't saying that that's what caused it but it reminded me of another thread / discussion and thats why I posted that.

Anyway, give it some time, see what happens, maybe your site is just dancing, not uncommon when adding new links. If the rankings stay crap then buy a new domain, do a redirect with a url shortener in between and you should be back at your feet in no time.

          Hi Niko,

I was wondering about what you wrote here.

I'm just a newbie for the most part, so I was hoping you could, perhaps, help me on this one. Did you mean get a new domain, and do a 301 redirect on your old page to the new page using a shortener like bit.ly and that should help get rankings back, only this time the ranking will be applied to your new domain?

Please if you have the time, I would surely appreciate any advice.

          Thanks for your time Nik0,
          Jeremie

Yeah exactly like that, input your new url into the bitly.com homepage, grab the shortened one, and go to the hosting/cpanel of your old domain and redirect 301 to the bit.ly/2vdsg9sg version.

Lately there are some people who say it's total bull cause you pass on the penalty right through the url shortener, but so far it's been 5-6 weeks and it's still holding strong, so let's see what the future will bring.

Stupid post. If you're making money selling services, try not to laugh at potential customers and making them think they're "stupid" for choosing a competitor.

OP, just start working on your site and focusing on solid links to your site. You're going to see rankings go up and down regardless of what update happens. Do everything by hand and don't overdo things.

In another thread I made a joke that went something like this (it wasn't a thread about someone who lost his rankings btw):

Joke: "I am gonna neg SEO that guy so hard, not so hard I just sign up for Matt's guaranteed page one service" (probably you have to read it in the context of the thread to find it funny).

So when I read this thread I was only thinking about that really and impulsively I posted that now, so it's not a standard thing I do, or for just any competitor, it had some history!

I think the answer is staring you right there in the face. Bulk packages of low quality links will often result in your site bouncing all over the place or worse.

Sorry to hear that you lost your rankings. From the information you gave it looks like the SEO service you were use probably caused the drop.

There are very few and I mean very few warrior link building services worth considering, most are total junk and only work with aggressive link building which now triggers various filters / penalties easily.

Most warrior SEO services are still in the mindset of blasting out junk links which is exactly what the penguin update responds to. Regarding guaranteed first page ranking, there's very little meaning In building a great site and getting to page one for a keyword if you can stay there long term.

Sorry for the strong words, I'm just really shocked and concerned at the majority of junk SEO services being sold to hopeful warriors.

You will be lucky to find any reliable services in the warrior services section. Buying one off packages here and there just will not work for long.

There are a few warriors active on this forum who i think are capable of quality SEO but not many and they will surely come at a much higher price. Just follow the threads for a few weeks and check out who is making quality posts.

Do people really believe they can buy the ultimate all you need SEO package for 99.99 do you really trust someone who uses the tag line Kung Fu Master! I know you're not gonna like it folks but quality SEO costs a fair bit of money.

The problem here Scott is that we don't sell an "ultimate all you need seo package" for a one time fee. We don't market it that way nor do we even hint that it is "all you need". If all you need is to get to page one once then our page one service is all you need. However if you need to move up higher the page one service is NOT all you need, you need more work done. Our page one service is a starting off point for most people, they can continue to work on their own site or they can have us do it, or someone else.

If the customer has found keywords that aren't that competitive then the page one service just might be "all you need" to rank highly. On the other hand if they find really competitive keywords and expect that $99 is "all they need" to spend to rank highly for their keywords on an ongoing basis then they have miscalculated.

The thing about trust; who are you? Why should anybody trust you? As far as I can tell, you're nobody with 1 like on your facebook page.

(FYI, the OPs site is not in our page one service as far as I can tell)

    I would like to add:

When your income depends on your website / business then it's not smart to buy services at a forum. There are a few good services but it's very hard to recognize for most people so the easiest choice would be to build relevant links yourself or hire a professional SEO company to take care of it.

Learn how to do things yourself, by hand, and you will discover what you've done wrong and how to make sure you don't make that mistake in the future. Trust me, once you learn SEO - it's much easier to hire others to help you.

I think you are better of waiting to see how it evolves, then like the other guy said, it's a good idea to learn things yourself first so you can make a more educated decision when hiring a company.

Ofcourse it's easy to point out some good firms but they will probably start at $500/month and often more, not sure if that's in your line of expectations. Obvious I consider myself a professional SEO company with affordable prices but IF the site IS penalized, well then I am afraid I can't do much about it either, except for suggesting to get a new domain and do a double redirect. But give it a week or 2, lets see what happens, if no improvement then shoot me a pm and I'll explain you how to do the redirect thing in a proper way. That should gain at least 85-90% of your rankings back within 1-1.5 week after it is completed.

Okay it's real simple, before everyone starts pm'ing me, I don't want to make a WSO out of it cause this method is proven although it's still young/fresh, so no guarantees for long term.

          Okay real simple:

          Step1: buy a new domain

Step2: go to a url shortener site like https://bitly.com/

Step3: enter the url of your new domain

Step4: copy the shortened url version

Step5: redirect your old domain to the shortened url (you can do that in your cpanel)

(ofcourse move your site to the new domain before doing the redirect, not copy your site but move it)

Wait 1-1.5 week and you should get most of your rankings back.

I get a notification by email that google upgrade its algorithm to penguin 1.1..
I think there is no matter how google's algorithm is, the only matter is the algorithm changes. That will make us difficult to follow Google's rule, since we need to collect information, learn and make changes to our website each time google change its algorithm.
