Can anyone advice me on a good directory submission supplier?

We offer a lot of links but we never really looked into directory submissions. I know you can buy 500 submissions at Fiverr for $5,- but that's definetly not what I'm looking for.

With directories I don't mean the local pages like Yelp, Superpages, MerchantCircle, Yellow Pages. I mean real directories.

Can anyone point me at a service so that I can purchase that to gather a good list that I can then outsource to my VA's, hey you know how it works

Or perhaps you have a solid list you want to trade or share?

Hey Nick, thanks for your suggestion but I was more looking into non-local directories, more like "starting pages" as we call it in our country. Some are even relevant to specific niches. With local directories you leave your full adress / phone number and all, and the webdirectory that I meant is more only for placing a backlink to your site without much additional info.

    Nice list anyway at Yext!

nik0, there are less than a handful of "general" directories that are worth submitting to.

Avoid all the rest. They're in for some pain very soon. (in fact the pain has already started).

With niche related directories, you might fair better. But you still need to be careful in selecting them.

So for that reason, when it comes to directories: outsourcing or buying from a supplier or doing any sort of "bulk" submissions is not something you want to be doing for domains you care about

    Hi Retsek,

I just talked to a seo supplier and he has great results with some directories, in fact he told me that directories had a lot better results lately then before, it's like it's coming back from the death really.

I am absolutely not planning to submit to 100's of directories (the typical fiverr gigs you know) or blasting it in any way, I just want to pick the best ones, like the top 30 only. Niche related directories would be even better indeed so I'm kind of working on that but not that easy to find.

    Cheers,

    Nik0

Interesting article, what I saw though is that most of the sites that are banned are all PR3 and less sites and most don't have any PR at all. So what I will do is use a list of only PR5+ sites and pick only the best ones out of it, there are 2700 + directories so it should definetly be possible to pick 30 good ones out of that.

Respectfully, you're not gonna find 30 general directories worth submitting to

Retsek, how about telling us what the top directories actually are that are worth submitting to? I know Yahoo Directory would be on your list, but what are the others?

I could give you a list, yes. But how about I tell you how to identify a directory worth submitting to ?

              Avoid any directory if they:

              - openly admit that if you submit your site to them, you'll get higher rankings or SEO benefit.

              - even mention the word "SEO" or Search Rankings on their homepage

              - have no editorial process or will accept anyone who has money to pay to get in. If there is a fee, it should be stated that it is for a review and is at least non-refundable.

              - don't rank for keywords in their home page title

              - have a large number of sites listed in your category which do not rank

              - have sitewide, sidebar or featured links to some random pay day loan or gambling site

              - have inbound links primarily from other hidden urls, redirects, spammy sources and other directories

              - do not go out and add sites on their own. That is, they just sit around and wait for submissions.

              - have an offer on their submit page that says "hey, pay X more and we'll also submit your site to these 20 other directories, and we'll even let you change up the keywords"

              - have a large number of sites which you would not want to be associated with

              - do not have very large and/or well known sites listed that you would expect to be listed in certain categories.

For example, a directory is probably not worth submitting to if it has a "Web Marketing Forum" category that lists a bunch of unknown, little known or abandoned forums, and does not list the Warrior Forum. Get it ?

If you still want the fish, without the knowledge of how to catch them then you can start here: SEO Web Directory List - Web, Social and Local Directories | SEOmoz
But beware that even some of the directories listed there, are ones which I would avoid.
