Hi Experts,

I heard that if you make the home page of your site dynamic and update it with new contect everynow and then, this would increase its ranking.
From this perspective, if one leaves the home page of his blog to reflect the latest posts, then I guess it would be better based on the idea above.

I also know that we need to optimize the on page criteria for certain keywords to increase the ranking. But if the blog home page always contains different posts focusing on different keywords, wouldn't this affect the on page optimization and reduce the rankings.

I am confuced, would you be able to explain this further?

Would do you suggest I do:

1) Keep the home page of the blog a static one optimized for a specific keyword and include a link for the different blog posts or

2) Make the home page show the latest posts

Thanks

I think it's a good question you are asking, it seems like the typical niche site with a big article on the front page may be a footprint for Google these days. It smacks of overoptimisation - how many "real" sites really have that structure? Weeell, some, but coupled with other signals, you may be damaging your rankings with that approach.

I recently broke up a home page, left just an excerpt of the main article, put lots of widgets on there etc. Guess what, bounce rates dropped by 30%! And I returned to no. 1 for the main keyword (I had slipped slightly in a recent Panda)! Now that goes against everything you will read in the WSOs, so maybe this is something to think about. However, this was an established site - I have not yet tried this approach on a new site. Something to think about though...

      Thanks for your reply Markowe,
If I understood you right, you prefer to keep the home page of a blog dynamic reflecting newer posts rather than keep it as a static page. Can you please confirm?

It is really interesting to hear about reducing the bounce rate by 30% on your page. As you said something to think about and try out.

      Thanks again.
