Why am I receiving so many visitors per day (100+)....I didn't do anything!

Ok, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, but I'm receiving a lot of visitors to my wordpress site. Averaging around 120 per day!

The reason for my concern? Well, this is a brand new site, it's very thin, and I haven't done any kind of SEO or otherwise website promotion.

How can I (effectively) research where the traffic is coming from, and, essentially, why? I feel like it has to be a mistake. In fact, if it's harmful in any way, I need to nip it in the bud.

I currently getting the statistics from hostgator's tracking, but am trying google's. Google analytics (I'm not sure it's installed correctly) reflects around 2 visitors per day.

Let's assume hostgator is accurate...SEO experts, please help if you can...

Thanks a bunch!

Google analytics is probably more accurate

You could also try installing jetpack for wordpress (it's a plugin) that's what I use to track my visitors it shows where they come from the search term blah blah

It isn't a dilemma. If you're getting traffic your getting traffic. There isn't harmful traffic.

Maybe you stumbled on some easy keywords. They do still exist.

Set up Webmaster Tools while your at it.

Yeah but the problem is he's getting different results using Google analytics

I'd tend to think Analytics is correct and he's looking at something screwy with whatever his hosting provides, like total pageviews (probably all from him) or something.

True, that's 1 problem, however, the primary "problem" is where 120 visits per day are coming from and why.

I can't agree with this any more. Everything you need to know about your site can be found with Webmaster Tools. You can even link that to your Analytics account.

It will give you the keywords people are finding your website with, how many clicks on that keyword and your position in google. It will also list your most visited pages.

From there you can work on those pages, knowing how visitors got there.

I am finding through this that some of my tags are listed on the first page for some sites, something that is bringing additional traffic I have not had before.
Thanks Jeannie, I'll look into this as well.
