Hello all, Everything I do online I try to base it around keywords! My question is when doing research should I pay attention to the Broad Search or the Exact Search? It makes sense to focus on the Exact Search and just wanted to make sure. Its finding those exact search high numbers say 5,000 searches or more per month. I am going for the first position in google for the term "hot 100 billboard" and I am using a .com with my website! The keyword is the url of my site, Im just playing around with SEO with this site. In total I have well over 20 domains.

        Only exact searches....

Broad takes permutations and takes the formations of the words and scrambles them...

        think about it...

"racecar drivers are cool" is way different from...

"racecar" "racecar drivers" "racecare drivers are" "are racecar drivers cool" etc.

When I first started, I made the mistake of using broad. Exact is the only way to go.

The title of the topic caught my attention because a lot of people are asking lately this question.

It's a big mistake to use "Broad", especially if you're new to internet marketing. (If you aren't new, you could use broad only if you know what to do with it ex seed keywords).

Always use "Exact" Search, because the results are far more accure than the "broad" search.

If you have anymore questions about this subject, feel free to ask.

Besides the basics of checking for competition, emd, title, h1, pr, backlinks, etc. What else should we look for when analyzing first page competition? I've heard that if the first page contains an authority site that you shouldn't go for it.

Also, how do we check for the quality of the competition's backlinks? I have seo quake but it doesn't tell me anything but how many backlinks said competition has.

      Thanks
      Nick

    Actually... You should use both!

    * Make a broad search when you want more keywords suggestions, but DON'T take the stats into account.
    * Make an exact search to have the right statistics. This will turn up less suggestions.

make a combination of both since the broad search do suggest some fact behind your keyword but focus more on exact search.

Focus on the exact search it makes sense but considering the broad search helps you in getting more suggestions.

I JUST found out about this! I've been using the broad search for years and didn't know that they had the option of exact search! Wow! This is probably the most valuable thing I've discovered in quite some time. Now I know why some of my websites worked so well and others fell flat. Those 300,000 search results with the broad search were so misleading!

You can better optimize your web pages based on the exact match results. Broad search can give you an idea about the niche topics and exact search can help in anchor text link building.
