VSEO and Penguin Update

Hey Everyone! Let me first say I'm VERY new to SEO so please be easy on me. I will start buy telling you about my job. I work for a car dealership and mostly handle their basic SEO and Social Media. A company I use to work for put up a bunch of videos on Youtube.com and other video engines to help with their ranking. I thought I would try this tactic with this new job.

So long story short we have been uploading videos to our channel on youtube as well as others and the EXACT titles of the videos seem to work just fine. But when I use a simpler version it doesn't show at all.

ie:
2012 Nissan Versa Sales Event - Charleston, SC - YouTube

When I search "2012 Nissan Versa Sales Event - Charleston, SC" it comes on the first page of Google.

When I search "2012 Nissan Versa Charleston, SC" it is no where to be found.

The previous company did not have this problem. I was wondering if it had something to do with the penguin update? If you guys could help out and let me know how to improve I would be very grateful!

Thanks everyone!
Jenn

If you know very little about SEO, why are you taking money to work as an SEO? That is quite disturbing to me. Is your new employer ok with you learning on the fly? Are they aware they hired someone that does not know how to do the tasks they were hired for?

I'm not trying to be mean in any way. I just see this happening way too often in the industry. I get emails every single week from "SEO's" asking for my help because they took on a project and now have no idea how to get the results the client was asking for.

To answer your question, your competitors are probably just doing a better job at ranking their videos than you are. An exact match title on a YouTube video is not always enough to rank, even for a long tail keyword.

Yes Mike, they are well aware of my knowledge and skills in this particular field. I have been upfront and honest with them and anyone else I talk with about SEO. It was their decision to hire me. I do however have a pretty extensive background in scripting for a reputable company. In the scripting forums I've only ever encountered people happy and willing to help. I guess the SEO world is more "cut throat"

This doesn't answer my question it IS my question. I would like to know what effect the Penguin update has had on youtube's ranking and how the Title, Description and Tags are read by Google's Algorithm.

Thank you to anyone who can help.

Add a few backlinks to your videos. It will help. I'd probably add a BlogSpot, write a supporting post for each video, embed them and link back to YouTube and your main site. It will help.

You can also buy 'views' and 'likes' to increase the popularity of any video or your YouTube channel.

If it seemed like an unwillingness to help, my response was not that at all. It was simply a comment about something that goes on far too often in this industry.

As long as they knew what they were getting into then that is fine. Often in situations like these, that is not the case and a person lied/exaggerated about their experience in the SEO world. Then they come to forums like this and think they can learn how to be an SEO in a few easy steps.

You need to backlink the videos. How extensively? That really depends on your competition and what they are doing. I would find the videos that are ranking and analyze the backlinks to those particular videos and emulate and then improve upon what they are doing.

I guess my question should be restated. PLEASE correct any incorrect information I might use here.

The Penguin release by Google seems to have done a few things. Among them that negatively effect your page, or in this case my videos, are:

          -uneven anchor text distribution
          -low quality links
          -internal duplicate content
          -duplicate title tags
          -slow site speed
          - high number of internal 404′s
          - high percentage of links containing the same anchor text, especially if it matches an EMD keyphrase.
-built any links from the blog networks no longer counts towards ranking.

I guess my biggest question for the video aspect of it is: Does Google consider the Tags and any other clickable aspects of the Youtube page EMD? I'm going to test out a couple different ways these videos are put up and see how the ranking does.

I'm shooting in the dark here. Anyone with some insight into this would win my greatest thanks.
