Is it Dangerous to Have Keywords in Too Many Post Titles?

I wondered if any of you have experience with having too many keywords in post titles, say for example you have 500 pages and 80% of them contain your keyword, is this too much? would panda crush me for this? All the pages have a different topic and the articles are unique.

I had other sites similar with around 150 pages and had the keyword in around 90% of the page titles but they all had different topics.. it actually helped to improve the relevance for the index page but I don't know if this is OTT?

What do you think???

Do you mean using the just ONE keyword in 500+ titles?

    OR

Do you mean using the main keyword for each individual page in the title?

If you're using the same keyword across 500 titles....well, I think you may be in line for a penalty. I don't have any proof, but I would be worried about duplicate content and lack of keyword diversity.

If you are using the main keyword of each individual post in the title...well, this is what you should be doing. 100 internet points to you!

Yes..definitely your website will face some kind of penalization from google. I know a similar website like that and they face penalization.

Yeah, I would be a little bit concerned about that - it's just not really natural. I mean, it's ONE factor that could count against you, though I am sure someone will point out a site that has the keywords in every single page title, but you have to have a lot of authority to get away with stunts like that!

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

    I've said in the past I though this would be OK because the posts had different topics, i.e; your keyword is cat and your post titles are like;

    How to feed you cat
Tips for taking your cat to the vet
    Playing with you cat

but now I'm not too sure about this... maybe I will just write more diverse post titles. Thanks.

Those are perfectly fine page title examples for SEO.

It's good practice and google panda never hit any site for this kind of work. I think, you have article spinner for post.

I agree. My friend's site has 100+ pages and mentions his main keyword on all posts. He got penalized for that.

The thing you have to watch out for is Google dumping a lot of similar page titles into Supplemental SERPs.

It's not a penalty, since an internal page title that lands in Supplenmental SERPs can be edited/corrected & revived back into organic SERPs.

Repeating the same keyword over the website can be harmful according Penguin effect. SO I would advice you to avoid this.

That is because keyword stuffing and G can treat that as a spam content.

As long as it looks natural to regular user and does not look overly optimized, use your keyword as much times as you want.

The thing is the content is not really "stella" it's built for search engine traffic. There is no other way of doing it. That said it is for the visitor, to get them to the page, a brief outline of the company and a sales pitch. The customer doesn't want to sit and read a 1000 word in depth article about BS, they want what they want and they want it yesterday.

When you say OTT there is possibly around 400 posts with the same word or a slight variation (plural) in it but I'm being careful to make sure the topics are unique and they don't overlap. I think I will add an additional 500 articles of mixed topics into the mix.

I read on Seomoz a good way to solve keyword cannibalization is to link the posts to the main page, but Google is having no issue ranking the internal pages for their individual keywords, I don't really care about the homepage yet. My content is not going to be linked to like crazy.. Some people say they do really good with this...

    No problem at all.

One of my testing sites got over 120 posts now and their titles have about 70% exact same kw and it's been ranking pretty fine after all those updates. So I don't think kw stuffing applies to title at all, at least not for now.

It has more to do with off page stuffs for sites that get hit

However, if changing them will make you feel more comfortable, why not just spend a couple of minutes to relieve the nerve

Like this one, a game news blog I run called Konami games news and information blog
(do a search because Warrior Forum won't allow links to be posted unless your post count is 15 or higher)

I use the keyword phrase konami games or konami game in every post title, because, that's what the site is about obviously.

But how will Google's Penguin update regard that? Any advice?

    Thanks!
