You can do it with SEO techniques that you would use for a normal website. You want to make sure you choose a good title containing the keywords you want. Then make sure you put the keywords throughout the actual content portion.

The finally go get some links back to the lens containing your keywords. You can use blog posts, articles, and all the other normal link techniques. That's pretty much all you have to do.

Squidoo pages will rank VERY quickly. You can usually have it come up on the first page of Google within a few days.

mcarey6 is exactly right. I've had many Squidoo pages get ranked for fairly good keywords without any promotion or link building at all-Google loves them for some reason-

Few key elements --- have your keywords in the URL, in the title, and sprinkled throughout your lens. Get some backlinks with your keywords as the anchor text in blogs, forums, etc.

Yeah I am not big on link exchanges either. Reciprocal linking is a bad idea as Google can tell these are just traded links and they will not give your website a boost in the SERPs.

I have found that the best way to build links is on quality blogs that have related topics. I can build an unlimited number of links on blogs and they are permanent on PR2 - PR 5 blogs. It costs like $150 a month, so I only planned on using this system for one month, but after seeing a huge increase in traffic and a much higher ranking in the SERPs with Google and Yahoo, I just had to keep going. My revenue doubled so I am pretty happy I must say.

Hey Jonoman, if you don't mind sharing, what tool do you use to get the links from the blogs? I have a good idea what it might be but it's always good to know all the options just in case.

Pinging your lens may help: Blog Ping for Squidoo Lenses

Also, get backlinks from related websites and blogs, as well as other lenses and groups on the same topic.

Oh, and write really good content too.

Use Social Marker (free) to submit it to all the social bookmarking sites.

You can create static sites that will point out to your squidoo lens, like blogger, wikidot etc.

i would def social post your squidoo lens to the top 10 or/best selection

    you have either social marker

    or social poster

these are def the ones that you should always submit to

    digg
    yahoo bookmarks
    google bookmarks
    mister wong
    mixx
    stumble upon
    propeller
    delicious

ive had some great results by using digg and even now some of my diggs that i submitted weeks ago are still on the first page of google

and of course having anchor links from articles, forum posts and myspace as well being a high authority site will give you brownie points.

additional sites to consider are hubpages, and wetpaint

this should give you some good seo oomph

    hope this helps

In addition to the suggestions above, when you create (or update) your Squidoo lens, try to use the keywords in each module's title. See my Digestive Enzymes Supplements if you need an example.

The other thing I try to do, to keep the page current (which boosts the Google rating) is to add a News or Blog module which gets automatically updated. This will mean your lens page will always be "fresh" in Google's eyes and therefore rank better.
