Analytics + Penguin = ???
- SEO |
post-Penguin (where some of our client sites have been hit) I've been wondering whether Google covertly uses Analytics data to measure what links and referring keywords/anchor texts sites are getting traffic for, and then based on that info let the Penguin loose. If that's the case, the obvious conclusion would be to immediately stop using Google Analytics for all sites, forever, and move on to some opensource tool like Piwik. On the other hand, they might not be doing it - at least there's never been any official statement saying that that I know of... but again, it's not like one can trust Google.
In our case, ALL of the sites hit by Penguin were using Analytics. A lot of the ones NOT hit by Penguin (despite having had pretty much the same SEO applied to them) were not using it (although some were).
So - does anyone else with a lot of SEO'd sites have any data to share on this question?
