Can AWeber Popup effect rank?

Yesterday I added a new article to one of my sites, and added a new popup aweber opt-in form (the sort that darkens the background). A couple of hours after making these changes my site disappeared beyond the 500+ mark in Google SERP's
It was the first change I've made to the site in over a month. Before then I used to post a couple of times per week.
Could adding the new article after such a long break, or adding the new popup caused the drop in rank so suddenly? or is it more likely to be a coincidence?
