Ok I am using market samurai (great piece of software btw).. When I do research on a keyword , I sometimes find, usually in between all the "red no go " URLS there is sometimes one or two in the middle ( no 3 or 4 ranking) that have very little backlinks, no on page optimization what-so-ever and everything would be green and yellow (which to me according to the tutorials says i can try compete with them, please correct me if im wrong). So my question is why would they rank higher than ones with more backlinks and hire PR etc? also when I see these is it advisable to try and take their spot?

Keyword research is the major task for every SEO expert. Before your start SEO, you need to find the right keyword and niche. To do this, you have to use the keyword research tool which helps to suggest relevant keyword with high search volume to optimize for.

Keyword selection is the most important step in any SEO campaign.always do focus only on those keywords which are relevent to your services or products instead of high search volume keywords/key phrase.use always Google adwords Keyword Tool for keyword selection.

Yes, you can take search engine spot of any websites, even they are very strong competitor sites, like microsoft, cnet, adobe, google itself, etc.

    The real questions are:
    - How much times and efforts you will need to beat them?
    - Do you have the power to do what you need to do to beat them?
    - Is it worth the times and efforts if you can win the keywords competition?

Geez guys, it's obvious a lot of you are just posting just to get your post count up because none of you answer this persons question :s

Anyway... what you should do is look at the on page optimization of the sites that are "RED" and ranking high. What you may notice is that they have very bad optimization which in turn means that Google is ranking them based on Authority alone. Seeing weak sites up at the top that have low PR and low backlinks as well as low on page optimization can be a really good sign - especially if that weak site is a Sniper Site with an exact match domain! If that's the case you have found a good keyword. If the Low PR and Low Backlink site is a site like amazon or ebay, then you will likely have trouble with this keyword, given the fact that the other ranking URLs have Authority.

      What he said...

Also I just want to add that at the moment it is probably more difficult to give a definitive answer on this that at anytime in the last 5 years. Honestly, some of the sites that are up in the search engines at the moment, clearly don't deserve to be there and I am not sure exactly how they are ranking. At the moment it is a bit difficult to reverse engineer the stuff the way I used to.

All that said, I think things will begin to make more sense and be adjusted in the coming months. So just because it looks as if there are easy pickings now, doesn't mean that after the adjustments are done (if adjustments are done) that there will still be.

Just thought I would give you a heads up on that.

The same can be said for almost all of the threads in this section. They're getting filled with mindless posts that make zero sense or have nothing to do with the actual topic.

Anyway, I agree with your point. Any time I see an EMD with a weak backlink profile ranking on page 1 I know it'll be super easy to beat with optimized content and some quality backlinks.
