The recent penguin update will penalize exact match anchor text keywords..
I'm a bit confused that what is exactly a exact match anchor text and how to different keywords other than exact anchor texts

For an example my keyword is "play football online" is that a exact match keyword? How do I make it NOT an exact match keyword?

I'm a bit confused coz I couldn't find a detailed explanation about this.

I don't think Penguin will penalize exact match keywords but Penguin will penalize you if your Keyword appears in anchor text links too many times. You have to keep the ratio's natural.

For example if you have 100 links and 90 of them use the anchor text 'play football online' that may raise a flag.

If you have 10,000 links and 90 of them use the anchor text 'play football online' that looks ok.

The only exception is for your brand or root domain where it's normal for this text to appear more often as anchor text.

So does it mean if I’m doing link building I need to target different keyword and mix like

    football online
    watch football online
    watch live football online

and also is good to targeted long paragraphs of keywords like "watch your favorite football game online now", "watch your favorite football game online live now 24/7"
Is it a good practice or bad?

Yes, you can certainly do so. Mix it up. Do not post your main keyword again and again. Just make up you mind to build 10% of the backlinks with the exact match keyword. Others with different keywords. Get keyword ideas from keyword tools and use them.

Using long tail keyword can be a very good idea.

Definitely, you should keep diversity in anchor text. You can use suffix and prefix in order to diversify your keyword.

Yes, that is your exact match keyword. You cannot change that and make it not exact match, but you need to bring it diversity in using the anchor text during the link building after the penguin update.

If you have 1000 links, and over 80% of them are using some portion of exact keyword of (not just your domain) the landing pages they are pointing to... you are gonna get hit... period. Especially if they are coming from irrelevant sites.

    Example:

    Playfootball.com/online-football-game(etc)...

Keywords: online, football, games, play football, play football online, online football games (you get the point - it doesn't matter)

Coming from sites about buying auto parts (for example), low quality sites / directories, sites that allow comment spam with back links etc... (again non-relevant - doesn't matter exactly which ones)

With these anchors and combinations thereof... you will get HIT HARD... the worse you did with the types of anchors coming from sites that shouldn't really be linking to you in the first place... the worse of you got hit

there are some REALLY good posts about this on YouMoz blog

An Exact match anchor text means anchor text used to make backlinks for websites. If a webpage got so many baclinks for a particular keyword, then after Penguin, it will not be good for the webpage. So we have to diversify keywords for a targeting webpage .

Keywords used should be different from time to time as recent penguin updates suggest, this will help penalize the site for frequent spam of contents for the same link.

Getting exact match anchors basically means getting links that have the anchor text of the exact keyword/keyphrase you want to rank for.
