Generally speaking, how long does it take a new site to appear in the first 10 pages of google after inception?

I really don't think there's a "general" timeframe for this.

I believe that it depends on a number of factors, the main one being the number of search results/competing websites for your search term.

Agreed. Generally it depends on your niche competition, website's quality, page weight and many other stuff.

From personal experience, assuming you have perfect on-page SEO and a good domain, and the keyword isn't too competitive, with good link building you should expect 1st page ranking within 1-2 months.

    I think it depends..
If you can manage to get many traffics for your site in no time, maybe that would help but you still need to have good contents on your site too..
Also try to check the keywords your using if how many competitors are using it too.. It would be very difficult if there are bunch of them using it..

In one word, it all depends on your efforts.
