I think the limit is something like 1000 per ad group. If you are getting that high, something is probably really unorganized in your campaign.

The key is to create VERY FOCUSED ad groups.

Otherwise you will be wasting a bunch.

    Hope this helps...

I second this! In some cases I even do just one keyword per ad text. This way I can keep the Quality Score high and the CPC down, because the ad text is directly relevant to the keyword in question. I know there's DKI, but I find this to be a bit easier. I then monitor ROI and conversions and wave goodbye to keywords in my campaign that aren't cost effective to run ads for.

Ah... that's only true if you're using the search network. On the content network there's a workable strategy the requires 12 ad groups at 2000 per group.

Make your ads and your keywords more specific. Try two-word or three-word combinations to lower the number of searches that apply to your keyphrase.

There is no fixed number of keywords you should put in your ads in Google AdWords. Yet you should include as many keywords as necessary to make your Google ad appear more relevant to someone searching those keywords and to improve your keyword quality score, which in turn gets your ads placed more often and for less expense.

To make your add more relevant and to improve visibility standards you can use as many as you can.
