1. denverkeyword.net
2. denverkeyword.org
3. denver-keyword.com
4. bestdenverkeyword.com
5. denverkeywordx.com

I've noticed exact domian matches seem to make a big difference, am I going to lose some effectiveness from one of these?

You can still get ranked without an exact match keyword.

Personally I would go for denverkeyword.net.

www.DenverChihuahuas.us is what I would go for.

The domain name is not as important as it used to be. It still provides some juice, but mainly from the slightly-educated masses who actually look at domain names in the SERPs before they click on something.

What IS important is what you do with it. My three best domain names have zero SEO value at all, yet they're all Top 3-4 in Google.

Not all true, depends on what you plan to use the domain for, lets say they want to use it for adsense. In my research/testing, Google uses the domain as part of its algorithm to decide which ads to show.

Its a good question, i have several .infos ranking well.
If going for long tail offline niche then .info can work well.
Really it comes down to quality of content at the end of the day.
Exact match does help a bit but as JaRyCu says you can rank well with domains with no SEO value, he is right...its what you do with it.
Quality content is the main thing

First: Stick with .com's. Make no exceptions.

Second: Go with a "branded" domain. Stop thinking about the "SEO value" and start thinking about building a brand and a real business. The rest will come easy after you put some hard work into promoting your site.

    I prefer the 4th domain bestdenverkeyword.com.

As you can also rank for the keyword "best denver keyword"

Preferably go for any name with .com extensions as most of people remember only the domain name and add .com as the default extension.

I will go with bestdenverkeyword.com. I don't want to go with denver-keyword.com because it has dash in it. And .com is always better.

.com is better in what way? For branding purposes? Or ranking purposes?

I think the reason why some people are picking the .com because they tend to rank higher than those who are using the .net and .org domains. It's not that the latter two are not going to rank at all. You'll just have to notice that most of the sites that are leading in the search results have a .com domain. If I'm going to pick from that list, I'd choose the hyphenated .com domain. I usually wouldn't go for hyphens, but it's a .com that we're talking about here. If you're going to ask me, I'd rather go for the branding track that Alphablue has mentioned.

I guess that is what Im trying to figure out, how would a .com rank higher than other extensions? Do you have any links to articles that support this claim? From what I have read places like google do not care if its .com, .net, .info or whatever, the extension is more of a branding/trust thing.

Thanks for all the responses! Lots of different opinions
I ended up going with bestdenverkeyword.com I agree it may not matter to much but I seem to do better with .com's
Doing some research I don't think there is much proof what is best. It would make an interesting poll though.

EMD still does matter; I'm having a bit of trouble beating sites in my category who have less than 10 BL but have an EMD. Top 2 sites are EMD/crappy content while mine isn't and I have over 100 BL and quality content + several updates a day.

The way I see it is when Google looks at a site about dog training, if a person even took the effort and time to register 'dogtraining.com' as opposed to 'generation123.com' google naturally think that dogtraining.com is about dogtraining because the keyword its in the domain name. It would 'think' someone wouldn't register dogtraining.com if it wasn't about dog training.

In the end, I believe it goes down to quality content and how its relevant to that keyword your targeting (If your targeting one or more), however, I would have went with denverkeyword.net for the 'extra' boost.
