Hello warriors,

I have a friend who doesn't have account of WF so I will ask his question in my thread:

His website didn't drop much after penguin, main keywords fell from pos. #2 to #6 and another one fell from #4 to #10.

1) Is it worth trying to recover his site, or is it not possible?
2) what are the best ways to recover from penguin? - I don't want to hear thoughts, just things that REALLY have helped, especially from ppl who HAVE recovered.

Thanks!

Position #2 to #6 and #4 to #10 are not really that bad,
You can't really say that it's been penalized by Penguin and therefore needs to recover.

Most of the sites that have been penalized dropped #2 to 6th page and #4 to 10th page or to nowhere in the serps. Now that would be a recovery.

Looks like you can build your rankings back up much easier with high quality links and, if necessary, some improvements in on-site SEO.

Alright, I just tell him that try to build more links? According to alexa.com he has already 1300 backlinks, but most of them are spammy backlinks made by scrapebox.. Do you think that making quality links will get him back to top 3? Or those scrapebox links will not let this happen?

One of my site where I did a case study on got penalized. Here's the case study: Site CBO

This is just for 1 keyword. The rankings were #14. After 20 days #66. After 30 days #6.

Note: I just kept building links to this site every single day.

I myself am scratching my head on whether or not one of my sites have been penalized. For years I have ranked #2 and #3 on keywords. All of a sudden about a month ago, I get the unnatural link detection message, then a couple of days later my rankings drop to #6 and #16. Now, just today, I'm at #16 and #19

    Am I penalized or not?

Yes, of course, you should at least try to make your website recover from penguin.
Since the update discourages indulgence in spammy SEO practices, stick to white hat, legitimate SEO work. Avoid indulgence in keyword stuffing, link spamming (link trading) & linking the same anchor text to multiple sources. Include unique, informative content in your website and make the most of social media interactions.

    Hi,

The good news is that penguin is the easiest Google penalty to get out of and site recovery is pretty straight forward.

The first thing you need to do is work out exactly what the problem is. Once you know that you can create a plan of action to bring the site back to the top of the SERPS.

I find a lot of people just 'guess' at what they 'think' the problem is without actually doing any kind of analysis.

This is the process I used for diagnosing my sites that have link based penaltys How To Analyse Your Backlink Profile To Fix Current & Future Penalties - Matthew Woodward

Once you have that data in place, recovering the site is very easy. In the video I demonstrate a site with a penguin slap and what I did to recover it.

just keep adding more content. screw all the link building that you guys are talking about. Matt Cutts says that G is putting a more emphasis on Social Networking - I suggest you go that route.

First of all a drop from pos. #2 to #6 is not a penguin penalty.. .there could be a wide range of reasons for this drop.

Without posting a few metrics it's impossible to determine exactly why has this occurred in the first place. Is the keyword competitive or not? Have you continued with your link building campaign or stopped (link velocity is an important factor)? And so on.

If webmaster tools didn't have any notifications then just keep building links. If it did and he has all of those spammy links then it won't be worth sending in a reconsideration request since there's no way to delete it. Even with a penalty he can overcome it with more links. Definitely don't give up, that drop is nothing and with a slight drop like that who knows, he could be up again after the next refresh.
