Is it Possible to Rank Posts Without Backlinks

If a website has 100+ high quality posts without any backlinks apart from those generated from social bookmarking, is it possible to achieve a high ranking in the SERPs?

I ask this because this is exactly what I did for my first website. The website was not negatively affected by the Penguin update, in fact, posts are now ranking higher than before. However, some other websites linked to the posts/domain.

With the websites I'm working on at the moment, I don't expect websites to link to the posts as the subject matter is very niche.

In theory, this sounds like a good idea as the websites will never be affected by Google updates. However, in practice, would this work?

Thanks.

If you go after all longtail or a really easy niche sure that will work. If you go after a harder niche just writing content isn't going to cut it.

All depends on the keywords you're going after.

I created a blogger page (one page) around a particular keyword phrase that gets 400 searches per month. I did zero backlinks of any kind. It sits at #3 for that keyword and has been there for awhile. I have another similar site with 1000 searches per month. It's at #8. I may add some bookmarks to see if it moves up.

Oh, and the niche is relatively competitive. I've just discovered the power of blogger. I'm now a fan. They get indexed within a day.

Yes, with uncompetitive keywords it's possible.

Also, it's a lot easier to rank higher for your posts if your domain has a high pr.

Backlinks helps in ranking a site. Without proper backlink from related themes we can't able to rank a site.

Google considers more than 300 factors for ranking a singular keyword. So by doing only social bookmarking you can achieve the good ranking. Try to implement all the SEO On page and Off page tactics to get ranked well in search engines.

Maybe on low or mid competition it's possible. But you need backlinks to compete on high competitive keywords.

Agreed - low competition, long tail keywords are the easiest to rank for. And many of them are quite profitable

You can rank any post without backlinks only if the post is having quality content as well as you are targeting low competition keywords, as for higher competition keywords you always required backlinks to get rankings.
