Holy C%#p! Someone Has Set Up Subdomains Of My Sales Page

Hey
I've just been on the Google webmaster forum trying to get some answers as to why I got hit so hard with Penguin and some guy on there has identified that some moron has taken my page and plastered it all over the place on sub domains. I've gotta be honest and say that I don't fully understand this, and although this guy has pointed it out he's now being a bit vague and not particualry helpful ( I think he thinks it's me that's done it which I definitely haven't!).

Can anyone give me anymore info about this kind of thing. I'm assuming it's NOT GOOD!

Here are a couple of the domains:
http://www.com.asapiano.com/

A.S.A.Piano! Learn To Play Easy Beginners Piano & Keyboard Songs By Ear

Thanks in advance
Shayman

p.s. If this has affected my website then yet more proof that negative SEO is alive and kicking because anyone could do this kind of thing I'm assuming.

If it's a sub-domain of your own main domain, just delete the sub-domain If you don't want it.

If you didn't create the sub-domain, you might want to talk to your host & see what's going on.

Totally nothing to do with me or my domain. These are all set up by someone else, somewhere else. Apparantly they are cloaked or something?

What are you talking about you own the domain; asapiano.com, that means you must own the domain com.asapiano.com

It has everything to do with you, go to your cpanel, delete the subdomain files and databases.

        Hi shayman,

Technically they are all on your domain (the one in your signature). These are all under your control, no one else can put those pages up unless they have control over your hosting account, or your domain name.

You have little to worry about. Those are just sub domains that automatically display your default website. It isn't actually a different website or duplicate pages, it is just your webserver serving the same pages regardless of which sub domain you type in your browser.

If you add a canonical link element to your web pages you will have no issues with Google indexing the wrong URL. Also consider setting up a 301 redirect to your preferred subdomain (www) in your htaccess file.

    Hi,

This isn't a direct answer to your problem but I've just found this, thought you could be interested:

"He also mentioned — and this will be good news to many search marketers — that Google is considering offering a tool that allows web masters to disavow certain links, but that may be months away if it happens."

    It's not for tomorrow, though...

Yes if that is the correct sub-domain you are reffering to that is assosiated with your main domain you should just delete it from you cpanel. i dont know of any way someone can create sub-domain of someones domain without direct access to there cpanel even then you just need to go in and delete it...

Quite intrested to see the outcome of this and if there is a way in hell someone can do this, but im pritty dam sure there aint away

    Hey All
    Thanks for all the info.

I spoke to my tech support at the hosting company and this is what they said:

A 'wildcard' DNS record is set up for your domain (the * record) and this points any undefined sub-domain to your website. You can remove this via the DNS Management screen and then the only way to access your site would be via asapiano.com, A.S.A.Piano! Learn To Play Easy Beginners Piano & Keyboard Songs By Ear and any sub-domains that you have manually created.

We have removed the wild card record for this domain for you and once the DNS clears undefined sub-domains will not resolve to your site.

Can anyone tell me if this will have freaked Google out and will it have had any impact with the latest Penguin update. In other words...will it help to get my site back in the SERPs now that it has been resolved.

    Thanks again
    Shayman

      Hi shayman,

As long as your indexed URLs are still accessable then you will have no issue with Google, or other search engines. Just make sure that your www sub domain is active.

Thanks Don, can I just check though, could this have caused my recent issue with Google. I went from page 1 to page gone for several search terms after Penguin. I'm just trying to put as many things right that I can.

        Cheers

No it won't sort it out, Google is freaked out by your unnatural anchor text links, you need to correct this.
