Reconsideration request accepted

About 6 weeks I filed a reconsideration request for one of my sites that received a manual Unnatural Links Detected Notice. Today google posted a message in GWMT to say the reconsideration was successful and the penalty had been revoked.

For those interested in going this route I simple removed the worst of the offending backlinks and when everything looked healthy, submitted the reconsideration.

Another of my sites that I requested reconsideration for was rejected, presumably because there are still dodgy links I can't remove so easily.

A tip for those using dangerous link building techniques is to make sure you have control over the links should you ever need to remove them!

Nice info. I have had some problems with google too. But is there a particular way you can find your backlinks? Is there any HELPFUL tools for this?

Scott, that's great! It can be quite a process to remove all the "offending" links; especially if you didn't put them there in the first place. Still nice to see that Google is willing to "reconsider"

That's a long time to wait. But actually, Google times the response so that it always falls inline with some update they are doing. If they are doing an update in a few days, you will get a response in a few days too. This leads me to believe the process is largely automated.....

Yesterday, it seems there was a new Panda update. So your response came right on queue concurrent with the update.

I'm stating all this from previous experience. Whether the response is a reject or approve, they will time it alongside their updates.

Yes true, SEO Majestic is best place to know your backlink profile and then to check to remove them if you have got an unnatural links penalty.

I haven't submitted any requests and sites that got the unnatural links messages back in February are slowly coming back. Most are bottom page one right now, slowly climbing up...

Lots of people have absolutely no way to remove the links, lol.

Good to hear that your sites are recovering though!

Do you actually get a message that your reconsideration request is accepted or not?

Hey congrats man. I hear those reconsideration requests get turned down more frequently than they get approved.

I think it depends on how many of the unnatural links you can remove. For many people it's difficult to remove the majority of unnatural links.

If you use profile links or buy them from sites like fiverr make sure you keep the login details so you can easily remove them. With blog comments there is not much you can do.

I wonder if you receive a message like this

"We've detected that some of your site's pages may be using techniques that are outside Google's Webmaster Guidelines. If you have any questions about how to resolve this issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support. "

Does it mean that your site has been de-indexed or will be in the near future?

You will only be de-indexed for really serious offences like very shady onsite trickery. Most of the GWMT penalty massages i've seen are for unnatural backlinks and the effect is all of the organic search traffic from google drops to almost nothing with only the brand left unaffected.
