Facebook Like button now working on new sites?

Hi guys,

I notice that Facebook doesnt allow you to "collect" Like on new domains, I'm assuming its a form of abuse/spam prevention.

My question is though, how old does the domain need to be or what requirements does Facebook set in order for Likes to be collected on it?

Sorry if this has already been discussed, I'm not quite sure what the correct term for this whole thing is so haven't been able to search for answers properly.

    I have not seen this issue before - if the domain is there it should work with facebook they should have no reason why they can block it, would take too much power to judge the domains each time someone likes something. but hey, maybe I missed something! if its true I would like to know the answer too! - (though never come accroess any problems myself!)

      Hi awj888,

      I've experienced this on almost all my new sites. After a while though (a few weeks/month) then Facebook allows you to collect the Likes. Before that they will allow you Like a site, but that Like will not add to the Like count.

      I think this was measure to stop those Like spam sights.

        A few months? There may be no facebook....

        The script is iffy at best. That's the problem.

        Anytime I use squidoo for a new lens, bingo.
        I do 3 in a row, real quick with some facebook
        accounts. They show.

        The script on squidoo is probably pretty
        bullet-proof. 3rd party scripts and even
        facebook's own are just not 100% perfect,
        nor accurate.

        On some new pages on my domain, using the
        addthis script, I actually see several likes when
        I publish the page. Obviously a glitch.

        Plus, your browser just may not be showing it
        correctly.

          We've tested it on various browsers, via various IPs from various parts of the world.

          Maybe its something else, but there is definitely something going on there and I'm pretty sure its a standard anti-spam measure.
