Hi all,

I was wondering if we could get an unilaterlal list of what works post penguin? If anyone knows what works now and how best to apply those methods can you share this information with the rest of us. There doesn't seem to be a formula that works right now and it would be great if someone could shed some light on this, as I am sure I am not the only one who is lost on this.

Cheers In Advance,
Seamy

Everything is working fine except direct mass link spam like blog commenting and profile backlinks but link diversification also works with blog commenting and profile links.

Everything still works? I am using web2.0s article backlinks, guest blogging at the moment. What am I missing? reluctant to use blog commenting, as they're not easy to find and do not want to outsource this. Cannot really use loads of social signals, as my website relates to local services and it would look un-natural.

Keep your keyword density around 1%. Understand. Include LSI ketwords. Link building is what people mess up always.

These are the various tye of links you should make:
    Links from directories
    edu links
    wiki links
    press relaeses
    Social Bookmark links
    web 2.0
    Article Submission

Just keep on rotating them evenly. Try to make the process look as natural as possible.

Ours is an accountancy site and we're now heavily in to social stuff - forum postings, blog, tweet etc. But no results at all despite all genuine, natural hard work.

Looks like post penguin, no one is basically clear; people are just speculating

      Thanks

Actually, I am not speculating. My post had to do with my real results for both our own sites and those of our clients. We did not lose any SERP position and in fact about a third of the sites increased SERP position.

Let me tell y'all that everything you were doing before Penguin still work. Blog networks, commenting, profile links, article directories, press release, web 2.0, they are all still working. But you need to make them look natural by drip feeding them and not 'one blast' thing.

Also, build links to your backlinks using senuke and scrapebox.

Here is a great method that works:

Get links from press release, commenting, article directories, wiki, profile links, web 2.0. Make sure you use unique content on all the web 2.0 and after that, blast the hell out of the web 2.0 you created using senuke and scrapebox.

After that, sign up to a good blog network and start drip feeding articles daily. Keep the numbers consistent everyday.

Do this and you will dominate the serp in no time.

    Peace!

Quality content still works and always will. If you can include your keywords to a density of 1-2% then all the better. Social backlinks (and bookmarks) also still work. Article marketing took a hit, but mostly because they quality of the content wasn't good and places like EzineArticles are in the process of tightening up their submission and acceptance process.

Directories still work, especially if you can get into Dmoz (although that's become nigh on impossible it would seem).

I haven't had any change in rankings for my IM blog since the updates, the posts that were number one pre-Penguin are still number one now.

In my experience, your content needs to be 500 words minimum but the more comprehensive the better.

Oh, and blog networks are being de-indexed for a reason. I'd stay away from them for the time being.

I'd imagine it would be fine, but no one (other than the bods at Google) know for sure and they ain't going to be sharing that info any time soon. If it's working for you, it's working.

If it hasn't already been de-indexed, then you're probably fine, but don't take my word for it as blog networks are not a specialty of mine. I just know to be wary of them after the recent algorithm updates.

Good original content on your site. Diversified links to main page and internal urls, mix up your anchor text over 10-15 different keywords and other generic words, and include your domain name in the mix. Basically, everything that involves good quality SEO still works if you want sustained results.

What does not work for very long as trying to "trick" your way up the rankings. I am amazed at how hard people will work at trying to take a short-lived shortcut, yet will not put that same effort in doing things the right way.

To be clear - quality content does not work in and of itself, you still need links. I've built articles that are the best article existing on a certain subject and left them to gather dust. They never rank by themselves, and if they don't rank, they don't get enough traffic to get enough links to rank.
Most of my stuff did not get hit by penguin, but it seems more difficult to achieve rapid gain since then.

    Hi All,

Just received this Penguin update from Brad Callen's Webinar.

Penguin deal is that Google is looking for removal of dead or broken links, so fix that problem first. So use a backlink checker to see if the site backlinks are dead, if so remove them and add new ones.

And make sure that you have backlinks to your business name or "brand" links - i.e. your business name has backlinks for the anchor text for your business name.

Many of the first page Google sites that the webinar covered showed case studies of the page 1 sites that had a nice mix of backlinks, 25% brand name, 25% of exact match, 25% similar backlink phrases, 25% other links (long tail keyword anchor text links) was the best blend of links that made Google the happiest. These sites did not get their ranking dropped but sites that were too heavy for exact match did or were too heavy for high PR links.

Watch where you are linking to and stay away from link farms. Be careful to naturally vary your link anchor names so they look like a normal person made them.

    Good luck!

From what I've read so far and what Ive learned from webinars I've attended, continous backlinking is still important and it should be diversified. Also, the anchor text should not always be the keyword you're targeting, it should vary as well.

There's a reason why Penguin's called the web spam update. That's what you should stay away from. Google's updates are said to "make the Internet a better place." The Internet is supposed to be a place to bring people together, so why not focus on that? Socialize. Make use of the information on your website as something that the people can use.

I think some matters are never change in SEO, such as, domain name, visitors, quality contents and good backlinks. You also should update your site frequently. I had a site which PR was 2, but after penguin update my site's PR falls to N/A within very short period. It happens because I did not update my site, Google thought that this site is valueless. Also recently I have learned that Google takes greater action against blackhat SEO. So, don't buy backlinks and do not build so many backlinks within very short period. Just build up your site's backlinks in good sites and donot spam.

Everything in SEO was working and is working as it is post penguin / panda update only thing which is not working is blog networks which have been hit hard in recent panda update except that as long as you maintain link diversity as well as anchor text diversity you shall be safer from penguin and future updates I believe.

Everything still works as long as you provide quality. Article directories were hit hard yet by submitting quality content to only high authority article directory websites, you may acquire the right amount of traffic. In blog commenting and forum posting, make sure to provide quality and relevant posts to high PR blog and forum sites that are relevant to your niches or keywords.
Avoid keyword stuffing. Following the right keyword density is not enough. You need to make your keywords blend in to your content in a way that they become reader friendly. Follow the webmasters guideline and you won't be a victim of the Penguin's wrath.

Penguin is all about anchor text diversity, check the serps for the top 10 sites in any worthwhile niche, the target kw in anchor text averages around 10-20% of entire link profile, got more than 30% and you're in trouble, also having 10-30% of no-follow links seems to help as well social signals, in the end diversity, diversity, diversity is where it's at......

Yes, agree. Discussing for which method working or not, you should differentiate for quality backlink and spammy backlink eg., Social bookmark there are always 2-side, one is quality and other is spammy site. This time to choose only quality. Do not believe if people said some specific method not work, it totally depend on how you make backlink.

Everything still work, you just need not to over-use a method. Keep doing blog comments but not too many in a day, keep creating forum profile back links but not plenty of them in an hour.
Also try to use many ways to build your back links, try article submitting, video description links, social bookmarking etc. Always post your link on sites with similar niche to yours.

Here are three things you need from your links:
    1. Niche relevant content
    2. Some page/domain authority coming from the link/site (not crap links)
    3. Lots of generic anchors

There are a lot of ways to get these types of links, but I'd say right now microsites, high quality 2.0s, and high PR manual approve blog comments would be your 3 best bets.
