Hi guys,

Quick question. When you are doing keyword competition research on Google for a specific keyword... what must the maximum amount of search results be for that keyword, for you to personally consider it worth targeting?

Or if you use a guide/formula, then what is it?

Thanks!

The number of competing results has nothing to do with competition. The best barometer of competition is what the top 10 results on page 1 look like.

Traffic will not give you right picture of competition. Some time high traffic keywords have very low competition. Before selecting keywords check keyword searches and competition on Google Adwords tool or any other keyword suggestion tool.

It isn't about the QUANTITY of competition, it's about the QUALITY.

All that matters for your situation (if you're making MNS) is the quality of competition on the 1st page of Google (some will tell you top 5, some will tell you top 3). This all depends on whether your keyword has 1,000 local searches a month, or 9,000 local searches a month and how much each CPC is.

The more local searches your keyword has, the safer you can be near the bottom of page 1, etc.

I would always try to aim for the top 5 or top 3.
