anyone tried, and done this with success?

lets say you and a competitor are at position 9 and 10 in google for the same searchword, and you both want to get higher.

will trading links boost both of our rankings, or will the links mean nothing, since we both will link to eachother?

By trading you are thinking at one way link exchange? 3 way is better if you can reach an agreement and have available sites. It's better to exchange links in relevant articles rather than blog roll links.

Still one way link exchange is used successfully by many webmasters while others seem to be penalized. I guess it depends on what sites you are linking to(avoid penalized sites) and what anchors you use in your inbound links.

this is two webshops im talking about. some buddies of mine also have a webshop in the same genre as me.

so we where thinking if we linked to eachother, we would get a boost.

but thats the question, will the links become a boost, or null eachother out?
