How many sites is too many for an Adsense Account??

Hey folks,

So I have been reading murmurations lately that Adsense is now frowning on accounts with "too many web sites". This is obviously a move to attempt to stop people building a high number of "micro niche" sites and they are explicit in their statement (buried somewhere in their user guidelines) that they prefer a smaller number of 'authority' sites to a large number of small sites.

The only problem is, Adsense being Adsense, there is no specific detail given about how many sites is too many. I don't understand why they can't just set a cap and be done with it.

The frustrating thing about all this is that Google always takes the moral "high road" and expects people to just spend their lives creating web sites as if they don't have a business to run. But anyway.....

There's a well known thread on this subject, seems someone called spenser from nichepursuits.com got banned - they had 100 sites and concluded it was the number of sites - however I think their conclusions were erroneous - as it turns out he had 7 adsense accounts and they all got deactivated at once... !

I have lots of sites - and quite a few that I sort of stuck Adsense on to see what would happen. I've now been through my empire and 'culled' adsense from all the ones that weren't doing very much. But I'm sick of this nagging nervousness that the rug could get pulled at any time. If there was another way to make the same amount of money from my sites, I would give adsense the boot in a nanosecond. Too many vague rules!

Thoughts anyone?

    Hey Lexi,

I think it's unlikely that Spencer had his AdSense account(s) banned because of the number of sites. I know him a bit and don't think he's ever stated that either, actually.

There's a ton of conjecture on why is account(s) were banned, but nobody really knows for sure, including him. My personal educated guess is that it's because he had those multiple accounts (They were all banned at the same time) but, again, I don't know for sure either.

We have almost 2,000 sites and haven't been banned and we know someone else with around 3,000 sites in the same position.

There is really no limit on the number of sites you can have in an Adsense sites. However, the chances are that those with a large number of sites are likely to resort to making MFA or thin affiliate sites. These are sites that Google don't want and have banned Adsense accounts for those using them.

Yes I think its more to do with the quality of those sites rather than quantity.

Thanks for the input folks. Next question - how thin of a site is too thin? What are the specifics of what makes a 'bad" site?

I have built successful "one pager" sites in the past that have performed well (the best, in fact, and one in particular has made me $thousands over the course of two or three years) with adsense - however in each case, the goal for the single page in question was to be the best quality site in existence for that particular keyword - so it contained a fully-referenced 2,000+ word article, hand written to the highest standards.

Recently I'm focusing on creating a number of niche sites that have 10-100 pages, and with all articles over 500 words, hand written to a decent standard. However, the sites are tightly keyword optimized and use similar design templates (HTML not wordpress). You think I will be ok?

Ya, you need quality for adsense. So, it is best to go for authority sites than the micro niche sites.
