Interesting take on the new Apple updates and the war between Apple and Google.

Apple Really Is Going To Try To Kill Google - Business Insider

I wonder if we're all going to be optimizing for "siri" in the future, ha.

The downside is that this could potentially dilute the potency of our SEO efforts on Google.

lol I don't think a search engine that is focused on local only, mobile only search results is going to make much of a dent in googles market share. This isn't "thermonuclear war," its a hipster with a pellet gun.

Hmmm, isn't something like half of the mobile market on iphones?

Its no news that more and more people are becoming depending on mobile phones as well for internet use. I think in the future, if indeed, Apple wants to aggressively put a dent into the search market, they could.

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed reading the article.

Apple, through technologies like Siri, is already laying the groundwork for gaining marketshare to compete with text based search. As the algorithms improve, adoption (and market share) will continue to grow.

Its imminent that as technology continues to improve and mobile continues to grow as the primary means of accessing web based data, the text based search paradigm will slowly begin to lose market share to voice and gesture based input methods that are much better suited to the mobile paradigm.

Text search is not going away any time soon, but Apple will insure that its tools (primarily Siri and 3D maps that are integrated with Siri) will emerge to compete for dominance and market share.

The only people that care about Apple are the ones that own an Iphone or a Mac, the rest of us could care less.

Good luck trying to do SEO for an Apple App.

Let us know how that works out.

Yes, I suppose you're right. Apple is pretty irrelevant in today's World. Thanks for enlightening us!

I take it you own a Mac or an Iphone?

I don't own a Mac or an Iphone, what could Apple possibly do for me that I can't already get for free from Google search?

Both, but that's irrelevant to the point of the post.

Even if I didn't own an iPhone or Mac (i have an iphone, an imac, and ipad AND several windows pcs), the folks visiting my sites certainly do!

If I'm running a website without considering Mac or Iphone users (and especially iPad visitors), I deserve the loss of income from disregarding that highly non-insignificant segment of users.

These are my sites/traffic browser stat. averages (3 sites, 2,500+ pages) that keep me self employed.

            Internet Explorer 39%
            Firefox 29%
            Chrome 22%
            Safari 4%
            Opera 2%
            Other 4%
Thing is, this comment by Apple (link in OP) is about as silly as anything I've read in a long time.

Apple is doing everything it can with iOS to de-emphasize the importance of search, and the web, in its mobile devices.
            Really, that's their plan?

Apples plan is to retrain internet traffic to not use search, what is this 1990?

What's the point of having a smart phone If it isn't smart enough to use the web?

That will sure show Google who's boss, lol!

They're trying to kill google as far as
              smartphones and smartphone apps.

              Really?

The same way google is trying to kill apple
              with it's smartphones and apps.

              Gee, ya think?

Contrary to popular belief, google android rules
              the smartphone world.

Has nothing to do with SEO. Google is heavily
into mobile and actually leads the way. If
you're not ready, then you will be killed.

Blackberry, and now Nokia, are just casualties
in this war. They were both killed by apple
and google. Amazon is killing bookstores and
things like Best Buy. So? Sears too will
              soon go belly up.

Not sure what all the hoopla is about.
It's business. One business tries to kill another.

              It's the way it works.

As far as apple, yes, apple people are just of a different mind
They ignore the fact that the rest of the world could give
a rip about apple products. So yes indeed, if you own a mac,
ipad, or iphone, you are very interested. Just don't ignore
              the majority of the world.

If you didn't know that android runs more
smartphones than anything else, then you just prove the
fact that people are caring about apple for other than
              logical reasons.

Where was the thread about amazon wanting to kill apple?

Nowhere, as usual. Only when it's the rest of the world
against google do people make a stink.

Where's the thread about google killing bing and yahoo?
              Exactly.

You can actually use google on any web browser.

Apple can try a lot of thing, but as long as Android is king, and by the looks of it, it will soon be emperor, there is nothing it can do.

    Apple is a hipster church.

Every time I come to WF I'm amazed at how PC-centric it still is and clueless about what's happening in the real world outside of IM.

I have a friend who loves to walk into Starbucks, find the one guy with a PC (if you can find any at all) and say, "Hey buddy, have you heard?"

Sounds like that Starbucks friend should drink less Kool-Aid.

Apple is exactly like Air Jordan shoes, the guys that don't care about Jordan won't buy into the hype of overpriced shoes.

PC is supported a million times more with software than Mac is. I own 3 download sites & get questions from traffic asking If there's any way to port specific software over to Mac, "I tell them buy a PC" (seriously). The traffic knows Mac is limited in software compared to PC, they just have a hard time switching over to a more widely supported system, there's more software vendors for PC.

..and here I am typing away on my Galaxy Tab Android phone, quite possibly the worst mobile device in the world. It's ironic that Google talk about user experience. Android wasn't about user experience, it was about pumping out the crappiest os as fast as possible then stuffing full of online ads.

My next phone will be an Apple = Great user experience. simplified. Nuff said.

I hope so because the UI is so frustrating. I've got nothing against Windows, except Vista which is still a bit buggy after several updates, but Windows 7 is near perfection.

While i've owned 2 Android phones and they are both terrible, clunky and buggy. I've always defended Android for it's accesibility (price) but now i can't bear it anymore.

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates spent decades crafting their products into what they are today. Steve Jobs starting in his garage over 20 years ago. In comparison, someone at Google rolled out of bed one day after dreaming how much money they could make from mobile phones and Android was born 2 months later.

Did you see the sense of pride and achievement on Steve Job's face when he unveiled the iPad?

There is just no comparison between Android and iOS or Windows, I think in the next fews years Apple and Microsoft will take the lead from Google because their products are far superior.

I also think that IOD is superior to android, although it limits the user, I still believe that that is not always a bad thing, not all users are capable to use software without stuffing it up. Windows is nice but still to unstable and fare overpriced compared to IOS and then android is just not for me.

As long as there are enough stubborn people like myself who dont wan't to change, PC's will always have it over Macs. I'm very susposious whenever the herd go crazy over the latest product. I like to step back , do some research and really find out if its better or if its being bought because its the "cool thing".

Funny how I stayed away from Iphones for years after knowing there are better phones out there, and now its funny to see those same people who gave me crap are actually buying NON-Apple phones now..

As far as Apple goes, they'll never kill Google. Mobile browsing will always be a distant second IMO anyway since they can't have the screen too large otherwise its not very portable...

Maybe when hologram phones arrive it may be a different story

I was reading your posts and thought very interesting. I'm an Apple user. Yes I have an iPhone, iPad and Mac in my office. As far as general use Macs are great. The iPhone rocks. Android Is good too. PCs have WAY more software and more then what's available for apple products. Usually I can find an alternative but not always. I also have an android tablet I use for some of my work. It's nice, cool, works well but more difficult to navigate compared to the iPad, but it fits in my purse! .
My boyfriend is a Mac developer. He's written several programs/apps for work, he's brilliant but complains its difficult even with his knowledge at times. Unless people are trained by apple experts and are great with code I can't see any market takeover....
    Just my 2 cents.
