Is A Click a Click? Does CTR impact PPC profit?

Hi There,

[This is a modified version of a previous post - the title sucked and I added a Poll which confused everything.

PPC Lesson - The Headline DOES MATTER!]

I am running Two adwords campaigns.
The overall CTR for the campaign has been dismal at less than < 1%.

However, some ads within the campaign are getting high numbers.

I have 478 adgroups - in each adgroup the same keyword appears, once as a broad and once as exact. I have about 10 ads for each adgroup. The headline is written specifically for the keyword and includes the keyword text.

This gives me a huge number of ads - close to 5,000.

I have been deleting ads with over a 100 impressions with less than a 0.5 CTR.

I sort of thought a click is a click - but CTR seems to matter.

I have just Paused a ton of my ads. Making it 3 ads per adgroup instead of the original 11 ads.

My CTR has shot up instantly. I am now doing about 13%. Everything else has been the same. I have not made any sales as of yet - been only 2 hours.

Some background - I use T202 to track the ads, so I know which ads are doing better than others.

I am not getting any conversions - so I am doing something wrong and I think its the large number of ads.

Any ideas suggestions are appreciated.

Feel free to call me an idiot  - but if you do - please give a practical suggestion on fixing things.

I have been tracking lots of different stats - so I really have a handle on what is going on - but not how to fix it.

Some of the stats:
Impressions
Avg Position
%CTR
Clicks
CPC for the day
Spend for the day
Keywords - QS < 7 on the day, QS > 7 on the day,
Keywords - # Not shown all time, # Avg pos 0-3, # 4-8, # > 8
# of ads, # of Ads with 0 impressions, # of ads > 0 impressions
T202 - clicks real and total
Network # of clicks

Everyday, I adjust the keyword CPC amount based on average Position from the beginning of the program. I have been adjusting by .10 up/down depending on position I want - but I read a post here which said to adjust by 10%. For keywords not showing it was .20 - now I am going to use the %10 and 20% figure. To keep math simple I adjust to the nearest 0.05 amount.

I have been blogging my efforts to reach profitability with the ads

prosper202.com/forum/2/3/how-to-spend-per-day-when-moving-to-profit

Its not a hot link - I don't have enough posts to make it hot. Copy and paste.

But if you have any ideas - I would appreciate it.
