Think outside of the box, don't just try to do something obvious like promote dating offers.

People that like to date, have other needs as well. Looking good, losing weight, skincare, save money, make money, etc.

  • Hi Dave, sometimes turnkey dating offers are an outdated method, especially the one like POF. Try to build a website around it, and keep it as a diary for dating.
Try to tell some experiences using that website (also if they are not real) and try to build an exchange with your site visitors.

Then use all the other ways to advertise it for free, for example sending articles to article directories, making videos, and so on.

I hope you could figure out how to make a great income from dating.

    See you soon,
    Alessandro

    Hi,
Based on some advice of POF users, the best products are online dating products.

But you can also target beauty, fashion, diet, hairstyle as well as coupon codes for manicure & pedicure. When people go dating, they like to look as good as possible.

Targeting in POF means you can drill down even upto the zip code level. However, not every user posted the right zip. Assuming majority do placed the zips correctly, then the more accurate target would be at city or state level. The more affluent the cities, the better market you have.

4 other important demographic attributes to check out so you can laser pinpoint them:

    1. Salary:
You have to minus 15% of the salary what they put there. Say the segment you're looking at place $50k per year. The realistic value would be $40 to $42. Same goes for the other range.

    2. Education:
Diploma or degree or post graduate. They buy products online if their salary is over $36k a year. You can confirm this by looking at traffic analysis of eBay, Amazon and other ecommerce sites. Check out Alexa, Quantcast and Adplanner.

    3. Gender:
Male or Female. This segment will decide the sort of products best for online sale. So high heels, fashion and lipsticks are good for female market, though some men would buy them as gifts but the probability would be low. Again, check out their affinity in Alexa, Quantcast and Adplanner.

    4. Race:
Blacks, whites, hispanics, asians and others. Really depends on their interest and attribute No.1,2 & 3. And the probability of Whites and Asians buying online are greater if you take a look at analytics.

So where do you start - choose 1:

    1) Start checking which region has the most interest in your product in mind. You can check this out at Google Insights or other analytics.

    2) OR ... you can check popular products on sale ( greatest affinity aka niche aka verticals aka interest ) in e-commerce sites by analyzing them via Alexa, Quantcast & Adplanner. Also check out their affinities in POF itself via the 3 analytics.

Then decide the segments with the highest probability of interest to your products in POF.

And then use POF to laser target your Ads.

For the sake of contribution, let me give you a list of 10 regions with the highest online buying activities:
    1. Maryland
    2. New York
    3. Massachusetts
    4. California
    5. Arkansas
    6. Texas
    7. Florida
    8. North Carolina
    9. South Carolina
    10. Louisiana

    Less favourable regions:
    1. North Dakota
    2. South Dakota
    3. Montana
    4. Idaho
    5. New Mexico
    6. Wyoming
    7. Nebraska

Very awesome post, he laid it all out for the OP. Could have been a mini WSO, lol.

Some other words: PoF is great for marketing because there really aren't too many platforms out there that Women in the age range of 30-50 (huge) come to visit on a daily basis that has a good open marketing platform. At first, people didn't put a whole lot of thought into targeting this age group because nobody else was doing it until a couple realized "Holy sh*t, these people buy stuff the most out of everybody!" - and then everyone started marketing towards the slightly older female with expendable income. Now there's a lot less room for smaller marketers.

Ive tried PoF sometimes ago promoting an affiliate offer that is World of Warcraft in gaming niche. I received clicks on my ads but its not converting at all. I stopped the campaign at the end because I was losing my money and time by putting my hope on the ads. I would not recommend it especially to newbies who is just starting up. You will waste your money and time for nothing.

You always have to remember that EVERY Ad platform has a learning curve an it your job to master that system. Throwing a few dollars at it and hoping your campaign takes off will not cut it. Be prepared to lose a few buck in the beginning, I would already look at that as money lost for EXPERIENCE. If your not talking to your AM then you missing out as well.

Hit up Ben, he's a good dude and can also add insight about your ads and tip to help them convert better.

It may help to post a little bit about your campaign so that we may be able to assist you more? One thing is for sure never quit split testing your ads, set your budget and STICK TO IT. But a little more details abotu your campaign would help alos try thr adnetwork cpa section as well.

    Cheers!

      Great info guys!!

I read it with great interest.

Here is another thing that might be worth noting.

Several of us in a number of locations have also noticed that the female users of POF are generally employed in one of two industries.

      1. Medical / Dental;
      2. Hair Care;

And these two industries employ +95% of all of the women who use POF from the United States.

In the first group, the ladies are paid well, but have little time available and odd hours.

In the second group, the ladies are definitely into looking good, but they don't generally have as high an income as the first group.

      Hi,

As Bryan mentioned, split testing Ads is seriously important. Also visit POF Blogs for great tips.

You need a budget of at least $30 to $50 per day to gain some attention from your audience. Some people spend $200 a day to earn $400 a day after they gain some traction. Based on this case study, increasing the bid do increase CTR. But before you SPLASH & LOSE MONEY, get familiar with the POF market first. Learn more with Mr Green.

      The simplest split test:
-> Splash the same Ad using 3 different images for at least 3 days. Drop one with the least clicks after that. Don't expect conversions. Expect interest or no interest through clickthroughs.
-> Continue with the same Ad with the remaining 2 different images for at least another 3 days. Drop the one with lesser clicks & conversions ( if any ).
-> Continue with the best Ad for another 3 days.

If there are high clicks but no conversions then you have 2 possibilities:
----------> your landing pages must be improved
----------> your products did not match your audience

If you have low clickthroughs, then you have 2 possibilities :
----------> your Ad really need improvements
----------> you have totally missed your target demographics or brackets.

Check out this video to improve your Ad clickthroughs :

Check out this video to raise conversions from your landing pages:

To save money and target well, you need to assume the habits of your audience.

Ask yourself whether Friday Night, Saturday and Sunday are suitable for your POF Ads to run? If not, just suspend them for these 3 days and raise your bid for Monday to Thursday.

Also ask yourself. Do single women with no children buy more online than single women with children? It depends on the products you're selling at your landing pages.

      NOTE
Products refer to : own products, affiliate products and CPA.

I can't believe we forgot about this tool right that they have for you to use. If you know the type offer you have just enter the main keyword and they spit out all the users who have that keyword in their profile for you to target. POWERFUL demographic tool IMO.

The key at the beginning is definitely split testing different things out!
Try testing batches and tweak them (one element at a time) as you go along to see how they do.
You need to keep your eye on the spending like a hawk though to prevent your money leaking out on poor converting banners
