Hi guy,

Quick question about domain names for the purposes of SEO. Below is a completely fictitious scenario made up to help put the question into context.

I am trying to target the keyword "Electric Cars".

"Electric Cars" has 4,500 searches a month. ElectricCars.com is taken, however ElectricCars.net is available.

"Electric Car" (note singular) only has 1000 searches per month, however ElectricCar.com is available.

In your personal opinion, which of the domains above should I purchase for the purposes of SEO and why?

Thanks!

    Just got with the .net

Or go with something different, don't put too much emphasis on domain name it's not as important as you may think.

In fact why not just make a bigger authority site like this

    cartypes . com

then you can have cartypes . com/electriccars

    and also cartypes . com/ecofriendlycar

Think of a long haul that can make real money not just a small site that will make you a little bit now

Why not get both and test them for a month -- whichever one gets better traffic, just do a redirect of #2 to #1 . The additional $10 seems nominal to get the extra traffic.

With proper SEO any site can be rank high. But EMD is an advantage. Just follow sovereignn's post. He made it clear.

I would go with dot com. Google will rank both singular and plural versions, so you might rank for electric cars. Also the singular word 'electric car' has a lot more long tail keywords than 'electric cars'.
