I'm pretty new to this whole SEO thing, but I'd like to begin moving some of my pages higher in the search engine rankings. So... I just sat down to start building some backlinks, but I honestly don't even know where to begin! Where would you begin if you were me? And perhaps more importantly: Are some types of backlinks more valuable than others?

Some types of backlinks are indeed more valuable.

High PR best links are your best friend. They're the most likely to become indexed and have the most sway in the SERPs

But you must also remember diversity is key

Build a steady amount of links you want to be consistent and get a decent mixture each day

One day you may want to get 20 wiki backlinks 20 social bookmarks and 60 high pr links

The next day you may want to get 30 Doc Shares 10 Guest posts 15 Blog comments and 15 High PR Links

If you're not sure how to get these types of backlinks there are tons of software out there to help

Invest in a war room membership. It pays for itself and does so quickly. Those wsos you are spending a ton of money on you can just get for free in the War Room.

Chances are if you don't know where to get started you may need to learn a few more things

Best of luck to you though my friend, hope all goes smoothly

Haha I was in the same position as you not to long ago, this can be a killer to your IM goals! Information overload can be a drag.

Don't be too scared to dive in, a lot of people are saying the water is cold and the penguins are out to get you, but in my experience the water is quite nice and the penguins are friendly if you treat them right.

Don't spam, create quality! That said, I began by creating content, this is important you dont have to have a library of content but have 2-3 articles and a video perhaps.

    Got it set?

Ok now lets back-link, I created accounts on web 2.0s using an email with my keyword in it. One universal email for this campaign will be great. Create the 2.0 accounts and what I did was copy and paste my articles from my money site, DON"T do that as I learned and got better it seems the best way to go is by creating unique content on each 2.0! I have now started doing that....

Start with Squidoo : Welcome to Squidoo (you don't have to but its pretty sweet) here is an idea I had last night for creating unique content, pick a video on youtube related to your niche, then write about your niche and how the video relates to it. Why a video? Squidoo loves multiple modules, you get something to talk about and a video module relating to your topic. There are hundreds of web 2.0s 75 Best Web 2.0 Sites | Marketers Black Book

Then sprinkle in some blog comments from high PR sites related to your niche.. IMO the most efficient way to do that is with scrapebox or SEO spyglass. I think about 10 is sufficient enough.

IN NO WAY AM I AN EXPERT! Though by taking ACTION and diving into the water knowing its not made of concrete but water, not being afraid if its too cold I can always jump back in, the second time always feels warmer because your body is used to it, like in SEO when you get experience but fail, the second time round will be cake.

    Hi,

If I may, I'd suggest you take care of your on-site SEO before you start taking care of back-links. Having a website properly optimized is actually the basis on which you will build. Unique, properly organized quality content is the key.

    Seb.

Something new must not be easy, but not means are not possible at all. The hard work of course, is like the proverbial wise.
Plenty to read and seek information from various sources on the internet or from other sources.

I don't know your keyword and it is always dependent on your competition. My advice to you, work at it everyday and do not become lazy. I became lazy and I got nowhere for a very long time. Money ran short and now I am working and seeing results like I never have before.

If you don't have money for software, here is what you do.

First thing, Google is angry about link diversity. Get a lot of different variations.

For example your keyword is xyz reviews.

    Grab 15+ keyword variations

    xyz reviews
    best xyz reviews
    xyz
    site
    this site
    url
bunch of different anchor texts related to your site

don't stop here. Get every page of your website and do the same. I grab each post and find 5 keywords if possible to link with and generic stuff (click here, site name, etc)

Now you have all of your urls and anchor text to use. Make a plan on what you can do per day.

One day bookmark your site 20 times, bookmarks posts, homepage everything and use your anchor texts that you came up with.

The next day do some directories (they are minimal, but are they worse than profile links really?)

Now post your articles on ezinearticles (after they are indexed)

Make 2.0 properties (10 maybe) put a few posts, I do 4 and on the 5th I put my link. It takes a lot of work, but they will stay alive longer. My 5th will link to my homepage and to a post. You can also link your ezinearticles if you like.

Next day, find relevant wikis and put your content the same as you did with your 2.0s.

It doesn't matter the order, but do something everyday. Also bookmark your 2.0 and wiki if possible. The more link juice the better.

Comment on relevant sites. Heck make all your posts into videos and put them on video sites. Also add them to doc sharing sites.

Now this is nothing new, but all of it works.

The biggest thing. The most important thing. Patience. I get discouraged and mad, but in the end I can't control googles speed. It all takes time, I hate it, but it is part of the game.

I didn't mention profiles or guest posting, but use them. Guest posting is great for good backlinks and profiles point some to your 2.0s. Don't go crazy with it, but any more link juice going to your links is a plus. It is personal opinion.

That is my advice for you. Hope it helps.

Great post.. Remember when members like you leave good posts like this it benefits more than just one person!

I am getting the hang of SEO, I just have a hard time understanding a few things. I hope you can answer them for me.

      1. Ok a property is an account at a web 2.0 site? Correct?
      2. So if above is right, you create 10 accounts, with 4 posts per account? What consists of a post a well written 300 word article?

If the above is correct then IMO after creating the 10 properties you want to start working on tier 2 to give tier 1 more power. With tier 2 do I repeat the process with different accounts, or 10 completely different web 2.0 properties?

If someone can help clear this up for me I would understand this crystal clear but as of now I totally see the picture it's just slightly foggy

An example of a 2.0 would be wordpress.com, blogger.com, blog.com, tumblr.com among many others. I post usually 250-300 words for the first few posts. The last one is usually 500 words or so.

Yes, well I make a bunch a week maybe 30. I follow up by bookmarking them, sending articles to them, profile links and wikis. However, I do use a guy on fiverr for profiles and use a program for bookmarks, wikis, articles. You are correct though. You can build up 2.0s by doing more 2.0s to them.

        Mine usually looks like this

My 2.0 gets Wikis, bookmarks, profiles (50 or so),articles. Everything that can be bookmarked does.

I do link my site with everything but the profile links. Usually, comments, wikis, articles, bookmarks, directories, guest posting if needed, videos, doc sharing but all in moderation

I might go over with my 2.0s, but it worked for me once. I just keep repeating it.

Also if you spin things do it by hand. It sucks, but make it readable. If I have a fitness site I am SEOing, I make sure the article is about fitness. Don't make an article about babies and link it to a fitness site.
