I have an website with PR3 and I was earning via adsense, almost 100 +/- per month from the site. The site was ranked well within top 3 spots for 5 different keywords for almost 2 years. I just built some relevant forum posts to rank the site. As the competition was very low so just some relevant forum posts were good enough to rank the site.Last 2 months I didnt check the ranks.

Well today when I checked ranks for all 5 keywords I saw my site sent to 5, 8 and 12th page for 5 keywords! I am quite sure google threw my site for forum backlinks! Even though the backlinks were from relevant forums and posts but as google recently devalued forum backlinks for SEO I think I got the kick for depending only on forum backlinks. Stupid spammers are really making SEO hard for us. They blasted backlinks using Xrumer and other automatic software and so google is even against of relevant forum posts.

See how many old backlinking methods are nowadays not working just for spamming...

-Forum backlinks (both profile and posts)
-Social Bookmarking
-Article directory
-Directory submission
-Some web 2.0 websites are not working as they were once...

Spammers should have been hanged for spamming.

Ehhh really? Well post an unique 500 word article on insanejournal and see if google index the link. Also once Terry Kyle ranked webpages only using forum profile links. And now would you be able to rank any site using only forum profile links?

So you posted your links on forums trying to rank your own web pages & your mad because others did the same thing?

I think the spammers are getting ruined by Penguin and Panda. And in time, legitimate white hat SEO and hard work will pay off for you. Rankings are going to continue to fluctuate as Google keeps running more updates. And rankings will fluctuate in other search engines too like Yahoo and Bing.

Seriously? The problem is you focus too much on one link type and it is not true that the others are not working anymore, they work just fine. It's just because you don't know how to do SEO properly.

Anybody can advertise about their products/services etc. in relevant forums. Like here in WF anyone can showcase their IM relevant services or products. No offense at all. I just meant forum spamming forced google to devalue backlinks from forums. Even relevant forum posts are not working as they were once.

I think web 2.0 websites are fine, but you had better not add links at beginning. Besides, try to use some social networking.

I actually posted something on the main forum similar to this topic, asking in this post-penguin post-panda world, what IS effective if one was going to do (or outsource) 3-4 main link building techniques?

Firstly @rafiseo, forum links, including profile links are ONLY good when you're just starting back link building to a new website, that is no where on Google page 1 to 6.

I know because I lost my rank because of those crapy links.

Here is a great list website to get backlinks shared by joseph7384.

And to get back your rank, I suggest that you that you build a broken link wheel with the web 2.0 below and send some rss to those, forum profile links and whatever crapy links you can find.

      All the best....

No man. I never said forum signatures are working as negative ranking factor. Thus I am never recommending to delete signatures. I just said once I could rank my website depending on only relevant forum posts (for low competitive keywords). But using some blackhat tools spammers did massive forum spamming last few years. That forced google to depreciate backlinks from forums. So even if I am not spamming(as I built forum post backlinks using relevant forum posts from in relevant forums) I got the kick.

Your problem is to rely solely on forum post alone to rank your site. And who knows how diverse your anchor texts were as I'm assuming that you were getting links from forum signatures so that must not be that diverse.

To rank post-penguin, you will have to go as diverse as possible both in link sources, link quality, and anchor texts. Don't just use one method for links, use at least 5. Don't just hammer your anchor texts with 90% of exact keywords, keep it at 20% and work your way out. Don't just aim for high PR, in context links because they're considerably hard to obtain, mix in some PR N/A links as well.

    Just my 2 cents.

P.S: I don't want to be a "teacher" here but your attitude is not the right attitude to survive and thrive in this business. Stop blaming others and find out the solutions yourself buddy Time to man up!

As a few have already said, you can't just rely on forum profiles alone.

Whether genuine posts or not G just see's a bunch of links from very little sources with not much variation and possibly the same anchor text.

If its anchor text variation and link diversity the beast wants then you must feed it correctly.

No. Read my post again. I do not participate here for the sake of backlinks. Not only is the backlink irrelevant to me, I'm more interested in the direct traffic.

Like I said, I'd be completely happy with Google ignoring forum backlinks. In fact, I would very much prefer it. It would make forums like this a much better place and the mods' job much easier without a bunch of idiots posting stupid crap like "thanks for sharing" and "great find" on threads that haven't been active in 18 months.

Sorry to hear that your site is out of top spots. Well I think you are correct. Google is not giving enough weight to forum backlinks nowadays just because they have used to manipulate backlinks for such a long time. Well folks are shouting that after Panda and Penguin now this is not working that is not working. But truth is nothing really changed. Probably google devalued some specific types of backlinks but still not completely out of the game. Such as article marketing. I saw huge no. of threads where IMers claiming article marketing is dead. But I am still using my own list of article directories for SEO. Basic of SEO remains same just might be some corrections done by google to protect spammers.
