Hi warriors
Any pointers on trying to get a site ranking in these uncertain times?

Since the latest google shakeup I'm hearing a lot of authority whitehat sites are getting hammered whilst some one page, weak sites are appearing to do well in SERPs.

I've also read that sites that are overly and obviously SEO'd are also suffering post penguin.

It leaves me wondering what still works?
Do y'all think that things will settle down any time soon?
Should I swerve traditional SEO all together and go for Facebook ppc or another non google source?

Great forum by the way and I would appreciate any opinions/pointers you may have.

best regards

Stephen

No one knows what works post Panda. It will take time to sort this out and then Google will make another change. That's what happens when you try and make money off someone else's business model.

I'm with Offline Doctor here...no one really knows.

In the mean time, I'm recommending that everyone just build your sites with humans in mind, not search engines. *shrugs* bout the best thing you can do in these uncertain times....

From what I have seen, seo works. However, it seems that over optimization may be a problem. For instance, I have had nice results from spinning the content of my bookmarks and also having different anchor texts. I don't believe that SEO is dead. I guess it is important to try to play by the rules.

What does keyword text mean exactly?
Are you referring to the anchor text?
Also, how do you build links? Do you do it, or do you let your visitors build it for you because of your great content?

      Thanks

Most people just need to adopt strategies with less risk.

If you create a MFA site with artificial backlinks, you are probably going to get caught eventually. It's not impossible to trick google. But they will eventually wise up to your tricks. And then it's your choice whether you want to become an expert at tricking search engines. Or creating a site that's safe from future updates.

Most high quality websites have survived every algo update.

Niche relevant, high quality links still work.

They work VERY well in fact, better then ever.

I have read that some people have recovered after penguin penalty. Some of them used 301 redirect method.

While I believe you still can rank sites besides new Panda updates and introduction of Penguin filter, I am extremely happy that about 6-7 months ago I decide t ostop chasing google and began generating traffic via PPC

Since the update discourages indulgence in spammy SEO practices, stick to white hat, legitimate SEO work. Avoid indulgence in keyword stuffing, link spamming (link trading) & linking the same anchor text to multiple sources. Include unique, informative content in your website and make the most of social media interactions.

Build your online empire around people not on Google. Concentrate on giving out good quality content. In time, your users will automatically retweet, bookmark, facebook like and share and google + your contents making you visible on the serps. You will also rank high.

What google do to peoples online business is appalling.

If they put you on page one for your required keywords getting you loads of sales on your website, meaning you need larger premises and staff to cope with the increase in sales, then, whenever they choose to, they drop your rank and the sales disappear overnight. Now what happens to paying your newly found rent and wages???

This is why i hate google

Another thing I notice is that when i stop spending money on adwords, google drop my organic results.

there messing with peoples business and emotions and one day karma will come round and It wont be a day too soon.

With post panda and penguin, the competition for a lot of difficult keywords have become easier. If you can work smartly and reverse engineer the pages which are ranking now, you can make profit from the current situation.

I have a seen a lot of pages from zimbio.com appearing for difficult keywords. So may try to add an article to it, do some quality back linking and make profits.
