Recently, I've learned from many SEO specialists that, Directory submission is dead by new Google Update, I have known that this is because nowadays people don't want to use directory sites to find their website. Currently, I am working as a SEO Expert in a company. My senior also say that directory submission is dead, so we don't submit our site to any directory.

Not all but most of the webmasters still rely on web directory submissions so you can still take some benefit of traffic (or backlinks) from them.

If that statement is true, then no wonder people fail.

The day I rely on web directory submissions, is the day
I will check myself into an insane asylum.

Of course, that statement is not even close to being true.

A better thing to do is work on niche / local directories. It's more beneficial.

General directories are effectively worthless from an SEO standpoint. I don't know that niche directories are much better, but at least some prominent professional directories such as lawyers (dot) com and 1800dentist (dot) com spend a lot of time and advertising money to get people to use their directories, so there may be some benefit.

Despite what some people have said, I have still found open directories to be very useful as part of my seo. I do not rely on them, they just compliment other online activities. It is a good way of getting high PR authoritative links, if you spend time selecting the right directories to submit to.

Completely relying on only directories or forum signatures is bad idea, but mixing all those - is very good idea for good SEO

You can still do the open directories, but at the same time, it is better for you to try many other methods like social network etc. The more ways, the better results.

Open directory project is still pretty important ... its just that the links approval rarely comes thru soon enough.

Best is to submit and re-check every 6 to 7 months while focusing on other SEO opportunities in the meantime.

    Best of Luck!
